In response to Jeanne at BidaSea@aol.com -

One of my kids' (3-5 year olds) favorite songs is "I'm Gonna Wrap Myself In Paper." I've not heard your second verse - here's our second verse:

When you see me in your mailbox
Cut the string and let me out
Wipe the glue off my fingers
And stick some bubblegum in my mouth!

(first verse: I'm gonna wrap myself in paper; I'm gonna dab myself with glue; stick some stamps on top of my head; I'm gonna mail myself to you!).

Mail Myself To You

I'm gonna wrap myself in paper.
I'm gonna dab myself with glue.
Stick some stamps on top of my head.
I'm gonna mail myself to you.

I'm gonna tie me up in red string,
I'm gonna use blue ribbon too.
I'm gonna climb up into your mailbox.
I'm gonna mail myself to you.

How about some old favorites for Valentine's Day? -

Skinna-marinky dinky dink, skinnamarinky doo I love you (repeat three lines)
I love you in the morning and in the afternoon,
I love you in the evening, and underneath the moon
Skinnamarinky, dinky dink skinnamarinky doo
I love you!

and remember this one:

There's a Little Wheel A-Turnin' In My Heart-

There's a little wheel a turnin' in my heart (repeat)
In my heart, in my heart,
There's a little wheel a turnin' in my heart.

Next verse- Oh I feel so very happy in my heart

I tie Valentine's Day in with talking about our hearts and how they work. I use this heart action rhyme: I am your heart and I go beat, beat (clap hands when say beat, beat) I pump blood white you are asleep (pretend asleep). I pump blood when you jump up and down. I pump blood when you run around. P pump blood when you move your feet (march in place). I pump blood as you tiptoe to your seat.

Love, Love, Love (tune: 3 Blind Mice)

Love, love, love,
love, love, love
See how it grows,
See how it grows.
I love my friends and they love me.
We love each other that's plain to see.
There's plenty for a big family.
Love, love, love, love, love, love.

Valentine Song-Tune: Love Me Tender

You're my rainbow, you're my star, you're my bright red cookie jar.
You're my goldfish, you're my pie, you're the apple of my eye.
You're my daisy, you're my vine, you're my own true Valentine!

I make pictures of each...rainbow, star, goldfish, etc. The pictures help the children remember the words. They love this song.

I'll Make a Valentine (sung to:London Bridge)

I'll make a bright red valentine,

Valentine, valentine.

I'll make a bright red valentine,

And give it right to you.

I'll trim it with lace and bows,

Lace and bows, lace and bows.

I'll trim it with lace and bows,

And give it right to you.

Three Valentines (sung to: Mary Had a Little Lamb)

Three valentines I have for you,

Have for you, have for you.

Three valentines I have for you,

Pink and red and blue.

I'll put them in the mail for you,

Mail for you, mail for you.

I'll put them in the mail for you,

Pink and red and blue.

If you have a Valentine, somebody special you know, you better give them something, your care to show! If you have a Valentine, a sweet friend indeed, you better make them feel loved, so they can suceed! If you have a Valentine, and they're extra super cool, let them know that in your eye, they are a special jewel!

Tune of "Won't You Come and Dance with Me" : Give each child a small colored object to hold; such as a small paper heart, wood bead, plastic counter, crayon etc. Use 2 or three different colors. Pass them out at random and have the children walk around singing the following song. When the song is done, they should try to find a friend holding the same color and then sit down together, quickly. The children love to do this over and over and trade colors each time a new round begins.(Make certain to have enough "odd" or "even" numbers so that everyone has a match. SONG:"Won't you be a friend to me? Won't you be a friend to me? Won't you be a friend to me ? And I'll be your friend , too!

A Valentine fingerplay: Show children how to put the "heels" of their palms together and then curve fingers around , meeting on top to form a heart. The rhyme goes like this: "I part my hands together, this is how I start; I curve my fingers right around and I can make a Heart!

To the tune of Oh Christmas Tree

Oh Valentine oh valentine

I think you'll like my valentine

It's big and pink and lacey too

Three special words say I love you

Oh valentine oh valentine

I think you'll like my valentine

My kids have loved this so much that we go around and let everyonne having a turn deciding what color valentine to sing about. I also teach them how to sign I love you (in 3 seperate signs, not the single handsign of open palm with middle and ring finger down and thumb, index and pinkie fingers up) , and often we draw that part out...singing it slower than the rest of the song.

I'm Making You A Pretty Valentine (Sung to: I'm Bringing Home A Baby Bumble Bee)  By D. Brackbill

I'm making you a pretty valentine. (Pretentd to make a valentine)

Oh, won't you say that you'll be mine!

I'm making you a pretty valentine.

Oh, won't you say that you'll be mine!

I'm giving you my pretty valentine. (Pretend to give someone a valentine)

Oh, won't you say that you'll be mine!

I'm giving you my pretty valentine.

Oh, won't you say that you'll be mine!

You said that you will be my valentine.  (Hug yourself)

I'm so glad that you'll be mine!

You said that you will be my valentine.

I'm so glad that you'll be mine!

Act this out several times, giving each child a chance to talk about what kind of valentine they are making.

Sing to tune of London Bridge

Will you be my Valentine, Valentine, Valentine

Will you be my Valentine, Be a friend of Mine

We stand in a circle and one child has a big decorated heart. As we sing, she/he walks around the circle and chooses a friend to give the heart to. Then we repeat. The one rule, you have to give it to someone different each time. Of course, we do it 12 times so everyone gets a turn!

Three Guesses

Mother dear, can you guess

Who it is that loves you best?

I'll give you three guesses,

One, two, three

There, I knew you would think of me!

Sending Valentines

When you send a valentine,

That's the time for fun.

Push it underneath the door.

Ring the bell and run, run run!

Ring the bell and run!
