Preparing for the Jewish Holiday of TuB'Shevat, which comes in February, the children each plant a kidney bean on a moist cotton ball in a clear plastic cup. We watch the roots and plant grow. We compare which bean is tallest, shortest, or not growing. The plants are an easy way to help the children see what plants need to grow. We further discuss why trees are so important to us. We create a class tree, with the children's pictures on it. We change the leaves according to the season.
