3-21-01Tape a large shape on the floor. Use this shape for "Circle time" or anytime you need a gathering place. (Such as when you read a story.)
2-9-01Placemats We have made placemats that stay on our snack table by taking different colored paper and gluing things of the same shape for each color. An example is on our red place mat we have a circle and also pictures of a pizza, ball, cheerio, etc. Not only does this teach shapes but it is a great vocabulary builder.
2-9-01Cut out a rectangle about 4" by 8" for each child. This will be a name plate for their spots at a table. Write their name on each one and draw different shapes around it in different colors. Use contact paper to stick it to the table. Whenever the children sit down at the table, you can talk to them about the shapes and have them point each one out to you.
Date: 1-24-01Have the kids lay on the floor in the design of whatever shape you are studying (circle, square, etc.) Take a picture of them and reproduce as many as needed. Also, cut out the shape on paper and let the kids paint or decorate it. Then, glue the picture in the middle of the shape and laminate (if you can) after you have done all the shapes make it into a book for them to take home. Be sure all the kids in the class are included in at least one of the pictures!
