2-22-01Birthday and Holiday balloon on a stick / Hobbie Horse. Take a full page of newspaper and at the corner start to roll. Continue to roll tightly to the other end and add tape. The newspaper becomes a long stick. Make a loop, and staple. These make wonderful wand sticks. Add a balloon for the birthday child or make several for holiday celebrations, green and red balloons for Christmas, pink and soft blue for Easter. You will find several craft uses for these wonderful wands. Add a star too! A favorite one of ours is the hobby horse. Cut out oak tag shape of a horse head. Have the children color the horse; they can also glue in rollie eyes and black circles for nose. Add yarn for the tail. You can also use a hole punch for the mane and loop in the holes with yarn. Everyone will love this craft! Parents and children!
Date: 2-9-01Following the interests of the children in our classroom, we changed our dramatic to a birthday center! We added play food including cupcakes and ice cream; added play materials including birthday wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, and empty boxes. We also added birthday plates, cups, & hats. On the wall we displayed a sign "Happy Birthday" and underneath on little cakes were the children's names and their birthdays. In the dramatic area we added pictures of children and food we found in different magazines. We planned an 'unbirthday' during snack time. Had party fare of cups, napkins, plates & hats and had a birthday snack and everyone got treat bags and a small gift. During the time we had the center the children loved pretending to have their birthdays; We also extended it into the art by doing a collage of ribbons & bows! It was fun!
