3-21-011. Read "The Three Bears" to your class. 2. Make "Porridge" (I use Oatmeal) in your class. Allow the children to help in this cooking experience. Give each child a bowl of porridge at the table. 3. Go on a walk while the porridge cools. 4. Have someone go in your room and remove one bowl of porridge and knock over a chair. 5. Return to your class and find that Goldilocks has visited the class. (make sure you keep a little extra for the child who does not have any porridge) 6. Talk about the story and how the bears must have felt when they returned to their house. My class loved this activity and blamed poor Goldilocks for everything that happened the next few weeks.
2-9-01Read simple Berenstain Bear books at story time. Eat Teddy Graham cookies at snack time. Have each child bring their own special "teddy" to show and nap with. Color a teddy bear brown paper bag puppet or coloring page. A good finger play is Round and Round the Garden.
Date: 2-9-01Children bring Stuffed animal bears or another stuffed animal friend to school. Make Brown paper bag bear puppets. Make white polar bears with brads connecting arms, legs, heads and pulled cotton all over the bodies. Make a "cave" from blanket over table or chairs. Use a flashlight and have children pretend they are bears. Stretch and wake up for spring. Snack with Bears on a blanket and sing Teddy Bear Picnic. Sing Teddy Bear Teddy bear turn around. While in cave can sing Where oh where is my bear (child's name) 3X ? Sleeping deep inside her cave!
Date: 1-24-01Flannel Board story for Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do You See? Draw or find pictures of all the characters in the book. Copy them on the color of construction paper the character calls for in the story. Cut them out cover with clear contact paper put a piece of felt or sand paper on the back of each one. Make a copy of the words of the story from the book. At group time pass out the pieces to the children as you read the story the children can place the piece they have chosen on the flannel board when you read that part of the story .
Date: 1-24-01A Teddy Bear Tea is the perfect way to have Valentine's Day celebrated by your little guy or girl. Each child brings in there special "lovie" and they present it with a Valentine. "Tea" and snacks are part of the day. Take a picture and mount in on construction paper with the child's reasoning as to why they love their teddy (or other stuffed animal) so much. Remember to include the name of their teddy and the date. A perfect day, keepsake, and valentine for the tot.
