I did this last year and the kids loved it. Use a Nutter Butter cookie for the body, cut our fruit roll ups for feathers and the waddle (or use gumdrops), pretzel sticks for legs and raisins for the eyes. Be sure and take a picture of your little chefs for the parents to see.

Edible Turkey's-Each year we make edible turkey's for each child to eat or take home. Each turkey will need 1 Oreo cookie, one chocolate covered cherry, five candy corns, one butterscotch baking chip, one red hot candy and chocolate icing. Take 1 Oreo cookie, separate it and remove the white filling. You may need to help the children or already have this done before starting. The Oreo break very easily when trying to separate. One Oreo cookie half is the base which you place a chocolate covered cherry on with the icing. Then take the other half of the Oreo cookie and attached it to the back of the cherry with the icing so the candy corn can be attached (points down for the feathers). You will need 5 pieces of candy corn. Next take a butterscotch chip and attached with frosting for the head and a red hot candy and attached to the butterscotch chip for the gobbler. You now have an edible turkey. I can't tell you how many compliments I get from the parents each year when these are

made! The kids love them too!

Sugar Cone Cornucopia's-

Instead of just a regular shaped Sugar cone filled with goodies, why not shape the cone into a real looking cornucopia? Start by boiling a pot of water. You will need the steam to make the shape. Take a regular sugar cone and place over the steam until pliable. Do not let it get mushy. as it starts to "soften" place the pointy part of the cone over the edge of the pot so it takes a bended shape. Do not let the cone get wet. once it is shaped, place it on wax paper and let it dry. You will have neat little curve to your cornucopia! =)

At the youth center where I work, the budget is limited, therefore for our Thanksgiving Feast we provide finger foods. ex: veggies & dip, apples & dip, various crackers, finger Jell-O, etc... all are served from a sugar cone cornucopia. Enjoy!

A tasty recipe for No-Bake Pumpkin Pudding

To make one individual serving per child, mix two tablespoons pumpkin pie filling, two tablespoons marshmallow crème, and one tablespoon whipped topping. It is fun for the kids to measure the ingredients themselves and mix this tasty pudding.

Turkey Cookies - you use Keebler striped cookie, a star chocolate candy, and a caramel. Put the star candy as the feet. Then the caramel (sq) as the body, then the corn candy as the head and the feathers is the Keebler cookie. You will need to place caramel in microwave-safe wax paper on high 5-10 seconds until soft so all the items will stick while making the turkey.

This is a fun Thanksgiving activity. You start with the Rhodes dough that comes roll shaped. You need two rolls per child. Take the first roll and just put it on the tray this is the body of the turkey. Take the second roll and with a rolling pin roll it out flat. With a butter knife have the child cut the flat circle in half. With one half of the circle roll it into a snake shape and this is the neck and head of the turkey. With the other half of the circle, cut with a knife to make the feathers. When you have all the parts of the body done, have the children brush on a beaten egg white. This makes it shinny and it also helps it to stick together. Optional touches are sliced almonds on the feathers, and coarse salt. Bake the turkeys at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes. You don't need to worry about letting them rise. When your turkey is done, place 2 pretzel sticks in the bottom of the turkey for the legs.

A variation of the Friendship Stew is Sharing Mix. I invite each family to send a finger-food type of snack that can be added together at circle time to create a trail mix. The Sharing Mix then get divided into Ziploc bags and sent home for all to enjoy. The kids think it is super cool!

Last year while working with two year olds we made bagel turkeys. For each child you'll need a bagel, 7 lollipops, and 3 candy corn. The bagel acts as the turkey's body. Poke 2 lollipops through the base of the bagel as legs so it will stand up. Then use the remaining lollipops as feathers poking out of the top of the bagel. Just above the hole in the bagel we poked in 2 candy corn as eyes and 1 candy corn as the gobble. The kids had fun making this edible project and afterwards we toasted and ate our bagels with jelly, butter, or cream cheese! Yum!

EDIBLE CORNUCOPIAS In advance send home a parent letter asking each student to bring one cupful of "cornucopia filling" to school on a designated day. Provide a list of suggested fillings, such as raisins, nuts, popcorn, bite-size cookies, and small candy pieces. You will also need one waffle cone per child. On the day of celebration stir together student's ingredients and serve each student a portion of the mixture in a waffle cone.

Every Thanksgiving we have a potluck for the parents and grandparents. This year the day before the potluck we are having the children bring in vegetables to help make vegetable soup. We will discuss the first Thanksgiving and how the Pilgrims and the Indians shared with each other. Then the morning of the potluck the students will make muffins and butter.

Every year for Thanksgiving I have my children make edible turkeys to put at everyone's plate. You will need graham crackers, chocolate icing, chocolate cover cherries, butter cookies shaped like flowers, and candy corn. Spread a little icing on graham cracker to attach chocolate covered cherry. This will be the turkey's body. Add icing to one side to attach one cookie. This will be the tail. Add icing to the opposite side to attach the candy corn. This will be the head. These can be made ahead of time so the icing can set.

I had someone ask how many cookies you got from the Cornmeal Cookie recipe. I had never counted them but yesterday we made them in class and I made half a recipe and had about 36 cookies. I give the children a small spoonful and let them roll it into a ball and put on the cookie sheet. That way they get to help mix them and also make them. Out of 10 children, all but 1 liked them. They get a copy of the recipe so they can make them at home.

Apple Turkey: Get an apple and place four or five toothpicks on one side. Place one toothpick on opposite side with a turkey head glued on it. On the others place fruitloops until you reach the top and place a mini-marshmellow . The kids love to make these and have fun eating as they go. You have to eat the broken fruitloops its a rule. They turn out really cute. And edible centerpieces for your Thanksgiving Table.

Thanksgiving Turkeys made with Oreos.

You will need 2 double-stuffed oreos. Take 1 oreo apart. This will be the base. Place the whole oreo on its side on the base, so that it sticks to white of the oreo. In front of the oreo on its side, place a malted-milk ball for the turkeys head. Next, place candy corn, points down, in between the oreo cookie that is standing on it's side. You will have an oreo turkey.

Make Turkey gobblers that they can gobble up!! Take a large hard cookie like a macroon, a nutter butter cookie, some frosting, a Reeses' miniature peanut butter cup, a red jelly bean and candycorn candies. "Glue" the nutter butter cookie to the Macroon with the frosting. Glue the peanut butter cup to the bottom of the nutterbutter cookie. Glue the red jelly bean above the peanutbutter cup (for the gizzard). Use M&M's or jelly beans for eyes and the candycorns for feathers. Secure everything with frosting. Let them dry for about 2 hours. These are a yummy creative project for children 4 and under (and for those of us with a sweet tooth!).

After talking about how corn was introduced to the Pilgrims we then make corn bread one day; the next day we boil and eat corn on the cob; we have popcorn another day, and then for fun we have candy corn the next day. The children love it, and are part of all the mixing and the shucking of the corn, and adding corn to the popper.

We make mini cornucopias by using Bugles snacks. Put a little bit of vanilla cake frosting in the opening and let the children add 3 or 4 Runts fruit shaped candies. I've also seen this done with Trix cereal.
