1-16-01Balloon Print Snowmen To begin, inflate a balloon to about four inches in diameter and knot the end. Partially fill a shallow pan with white tempera paint. Dip the balloon into the paint, then press it three times onto blue or black construction paper. For larger circles press down on the balloon firmly, press less hard for medium circles, and for the small circle press down lightly. Let dry. Decorate with wallpaper scraps for a scarf (two rectangles), hat (rectangle and square) use a hole punch to create eyes, orange scraps for a carrot nose (triangle nose), fruit loop cereal for buttons. Add lace doily scraps for snowflakes.
1-16-01We just did snowmen during our library story hour, and worked on a fun craft project. We read the book "Snowballs" by Lois Ehlert. Then we made collage snowmen similar to the snowmen pictured in the book. We pre-cut three white circles and had the children glue them onto a piece of blue card stock paper. Then we used food/natural products to decorate the snowmen - raisins, popped popcorn, popcorn kernels, dried split peas, sunflower seeds, noodles, etc. We also used ribbons for scarves, and black construction paper hats to finish our snowmen. The kids loved using their creativity, as well as eating some of the decorations along the way.
1-13-01We did these yesterday, and they turned out so cute! Give each child a piece of royal blue construction paper (1/2 sheet). Then they take a large marshmallow, dip it in white liquid tempra paint and first "smear" it across the bottom of the paper, creating the ground covered with snow. Then they use the same marshmallow to "stamp" circles on top of each other to build a snowman. Then they use a q-tip to dot snowflakes falling from the sky all around. Then the next day, or when dry, the children used markers to add the details to complete the snowmen. My Pre-K students did these, and they were so unique and creative! Resa
1-11-01Make an outline of a snowman out of construction paper and cut it out. Also cut out a top hat out of black construction paper. Use shredded white paper from your shredder. Have the children put glue on the snow man and stick the shredded paper to it. Then have them glue the top hat on. Glue a candy corn on for the mouth, some fake eyes and four little pompoms for the mouth and three larger ones for the buttons. Use pipe cleaners for the arms. Very cute and very fun.
12-30-00I take snow that you can buy at Christmas time. We glue it to already cut shapes of snowmen. We then add eyes and buttons and whatever else the kids can decide to the snow person.
12-27-00Coconut sparkle snowman Staple 3 paper plates together, the largest being the bottom and the smallest being the top. Have the children brush or paint white glue onto the snowman, then sprinkle with coconut and silver glitter. I used three small pom-poms for buttons and two for the eyes. We also glued on paper scarves. They smell great and look fuzzy too!
12-27-00This idea came from the director of a preschool. You take a piece of clear contact paper and cut it in the shape of a snowman. Staple the contact paper sticky side up and start to peel the paper so the children may peel the rest. Stick cotton balls on the contact paper and you have yourself a snowman. There is no waiting for drying and the children can take them home the same day. My three year olds loved doing this. Thanks Karen.
12-5-00Mini Marsh Mellow Snow People On construction paper draw a snowperson with a white crayon. Using white mini marshmallows have the children lick the bottom of the marshmallow and stick it to the paper following the circles of the pre-drawn snow person. This actually works! The marshmallows really stick to the paper. The kids love it and its a no mess project!!
11-30-00Pre-cut snowpeople shapes on heavy weight paper (or tagboard) Allow the children to glue mini-marshmallows all over the snowperson. Chocolate chips can be used for the eyes and/or mouth. To add more fun, glue on (pre-cut) top hats or scarves. Be creative with different edible decorations that can be glued on. *Be sure to set some goodies aside for an extra yummy art project!:-)*
11-18-00Each child will need 2 white paper lunch bags, a few sheets of newspaper, pipe cleaners in white, and red or green. Open up one bag and stuff with crumpled paper. Open second bag and fit over the top of first bag so that paper can't fall out. Tie 2/3 up with white pipe cleaner. use other color to tie again to section off head, leaving a little of the pipe cleaner to hang down for scarf. Decorate face (we used felt for eyes and mouth, and an orange pipe cleaner for nose) We also used brown pipe cleaners poked into sides for arms. Better for 4's and 5's, or pre-assemble for younger ones and let them decorate with paint, or markers.
11-12-00Using a rectangle of contact paper unpeeled have children sprinkle half teaspoon of ivory snow onto the contact paper and spread flat with spoon. Let children place precut construction paper pieces of orange nose, brown stick arms, and paper hole punched black eyes, and a black hat. Fold contact paper in half and seal the edges. You have created a melted snowman!
11-12-00Roller Paint Ahead of time make a snowman template out of tag board. Then the child can use small roller painters to roll paint onto a piece of paper under the template. Take the template off and you have a nice snowman!
11-12-00Make Puff Paint by mixing glue and shaving cream (equal parts). Then using butcher paper, cut out 3 circles: one small, one medium, and one large. The children finger paint on the paper and then when it's dry, hang it up in the hall for an instant snowman!
11-12-00Contact Paper Snowman Materials: contact paper construction paper (white and black) cotton balls stapler markers or crayons Cut snowman shape out of white construction paper. Cut contact paper in shape of bottom half of snowman. (make sure sticky side is up) staple to snowman. Have children stick cotton balls on contact paper. Have children draw faces or whatever else they want and then cut out hat for them to glue on top!
11-12-00Use three white cupcake liners to "build" a snowman and then provide scrap materials or other miscellaneous items for children to embellish their snow people. Sprinkle a bit of white or clear glitter on the snow person. Have children tell something about their snow person and write it on the paper. 11-12-00Soapy Snowman Using a grater, grate soap like Jerkins or Ivory Mix with a couple tablespoons of water and mix into a ball using hands. Make three balls: one small, one medium, and one large. Add eyes and a nose using spices, use toothpicks for the arms, add fabric for a scarf, gloves, let your imagination run wild. Great for fine motor movement and fun!!
