We used a large kitchen appliance box for the body. I cut a door into the side so the preschooler could enter. I made arms out of plastic dryer vent and taped on rubber maid gloves. I attached these in front of the box and made holes so the Preschooler could put their arms into the robot arms to bring him to life. We added a 2"/6" slit in front for viewing out. We added a smaller box on top for a head. (The preschoolers head didn't go up into this) We Hot glued lots of lids small containers, and other recycled objects the preschoolers brought from home to make knobs and buttons for operating the robot. The next year we made two and faced them toward each other with a manipulative table in the middle. These were robots working at a factory. The preschoolers had great fun and begged to have them out long after the robot unit was over.
