Put a large piece of butcher paper on the floor. Put a popper in the middle, without lid, and draw three concentric circles around it. Have kids sit around farthest circle, and have them predict how far the popcorn will go. Watch the fun as you put the popper to work! Older kids working on numbers can count the popcorn in each circle, or, you can work on vocabulary few, many and none.

Buy several ears of popcorn that is still on the cob.  You can get these at many specialty stores.  Place the ears of popcorn on your science table along with a jar of popcorn kernels and a jar of popped popcorn.  Have the children observe and compare the differences between each type of popcorn.  Later, have the children remove the kernels from the cob and pop it in an air popper.
