I have purchased some aquarium stones and used them in a game I call 'Mystery
Letters'. I made dots on a square piece of paper with cardboard backing in the
pattern of each letter of the alphabet (upper w/lower beside) It just looks like
a bunch of dots until the child places a stone on each dot ( the dot can be seen
through the stone if you get a light color stone) when they finish, they can see
what letter they have created. My kids really like this activity.

Idea:
Buy clothespins and write a letter (upper or lower case) on both front and the
back of the pin. (I suggest buying enough pins to go through the alphabet 2 or 3
times because some names i.e. Shannon requires the same letter numerous times).
Then let the children clip the pin onto their name tag. This is a great way for
the kids to not only recognize but also spell their name, and it strengthens
their little fingers for writing!! My three's love this and always try
negotiating with me when it's time to clean up centers.

Alphabet soup Bingo
Have a set of plastic alphabet shapes. place them in a bowl and provide a scoop.
Have a child come up and scoop some alphabet soup out.
Then the child can go to their card (a card made like a bingo card with
different letters in each square) and places their letters on the correct
square. YOu can play this individually or as a small group.

Print the children's names or the first letter of their name (depending on their
age) and tape them to their chairs. At lunch or table activities, they can find
their name of letter.

On a large vinyl tablecloth write all the letter of the alphabet evenly
spaced and large enough to been seen from a few feet away. Let the children take
turns tossing a beanbag onto the cloth. Ask them to say the letter they land on
aloud and then a word that begins with that letter. This game is great for
encouraging hand/eye coordination and letter/sound recognition.

Using a small children's plastic pool, fill the bottom of the pool with
magnetic alphabet magnets of different colors and sizes. Make "fishing poles"
from pencils, string and paper clips and let the children "fish" for letters.
Can be used to learn colors, smaller/larger, and obviously....ABC's!
