Contact_FullName: Lauran Contact_Email: Dphsgirl@yahoo.com Area: Fun Idea: For my pre-k class we wanted to do something winter related so i gathered up graham crackers candied fruit candy and frosting and they created their very own ginger bread house which we ate for snack time. What a blast Contact_FullName: Dawn Contact_Email: zebe912@aol.com Area: Winter Snacks, Snow Snacks Idea: Snow Candy as it is already listed is fun. However, if you use real Maple Syrup and boil it the same way, you get an all natural treat that doesn't require any measuring or mixing of ingredients. You can also tie in the science of Maple Syrup Season which is at the end of winter when the weather just starts getting warm again during the day. 12-27-00Polar Ice Cap - Ingredients: blue kool-aid (prepared as directed), ginger ale, vanilla ice cream, clear glass, straw. Directions: (1) put the kool-aid and the ginger ale in the refrigerator until they are cold. (2) fill a glass almost halfway with blue kool-aid. (3) add ginger ale almost to the top of the glass. (4) drop in one big scoop of vanilla ice cream. (5) enjoy your "North Pole" drink with a straw!
Date: 1-31-00edible 'snowballs' We made homemade doughnuts; after frying we rolled them in our powdered sugar 'snow' and ate them.
Date: 1-31-00Snowman Soup (this was not my idea but my children loved it) put hot chocolate mix into a cup ADD: 2 Hershey kisses 1 small candy cane ADD hot water and stir ADD: 1 ice cube and 3 marshmallow 'snow balls'
ideaSNOW CREAM ! I let my children collect clean snow in a large bowl. We then add approximately one cup of milk, 1/2 cup of sugar and some vanilla extract. It will be about the same texture as a milkshake! This is really easy and the kids can do it themselves. My classes have always loved this one!
ideaHow about S'mores? We use Graham Crackers, Hershey Candy Bars and Big Marshmallows and a Microwave. YUM!! Also a great treat is Hot Chocolate. The little ones like it lukewarm.
Date: 1-9-00Pancake Snowman: Give the children three circle pancakes of different sizes. They make a snowman. Sprinkle them with powdered sugar. Add mini M&m's for buttons, raisins for eyes, red hots for mouth, etc. Then eat! Date: 1-20-99Snow Candy 2 cups of brown sugar 3 tablespoons of butter 1/2 cup of water Bring water to a rolling boil Boil for about 10 min. Have the children make a smooth place in clean snow Pour the snow candy on it. You can write their names in it or draw pictures. Don't touch until it has cooled. Then you can have a great snack! Date: 1-17-99snowmen-- Louis rich turkey slices cut down = the snowman body, chocolate wafer cookies =hat(cut into the hat shape) raisins =eyes, small carrots =nose ,orange slice=mouth, fruit snack by the foot =scarf,m&m's=buttons and pretzel sticks =arms. let the kids put them together during their center time then eat them during snack time! Date: 1-10-99In the winter when we talk about ice and snow. We also talk about water and ice and how water is a liquid and ice is a solid. To reinforce this idea, give each child a 1 gallon ziploc bag with crushed ice in it. Add ice cream salt. Place a smaller bag filled with kool-aid, lemonade or juice. Shake and it freezes. If you play the Greg and Steve song "The Freeze" it will usually be frozen by the time the song is over! Date: 1-8-99Peanut Butter Snowballs Note------ Make sure that none of your children in your class are allergic to any of these ingredients. Needed: 1 Small Jar Of Peanut Butter Empty the jar of peanut butter into a bowl. Add 1 to 2 TBS. of honey (depending on how sweet you want the mixture to be). Add 1/4 cup of dry milk and mix into the peanut butter. Keep adding small amounts of dry milk until the peanut butter has a "playdough-like" consistency. Have the children roll the peanut butter mixture into balls. Finally, roll the balls into the coconut. The children can also make snowmen using this procedure.
Date: 1-7-99We like to *make* snow to eat for snack by taking the Gatorade Frost *white* flavor, freezing it in tubs and putting it through n ice-shaver. The one I use is from Pampered Chef, but I'm sure there are others on the market as well. The consistency is almost like snow, is white, and tastes great! Date: 11-21-98Yummy Igloo Ice Blocks Have the children pour a drink of their choice, such as apple juice, orange juice, or fruit punch, into an ice cube tray. Children should place a small swivel stick into the cube container so one end of the stick stays immersed in the liquid. Put the juice tray into the freezer section of the refrigerator. Ask children to predict what will happen to their juice when it is kept in the freezer. When the liquid is frozen, remove the tray from the freezer. Pop out each cube, and you've got yummy igloo blocks for the class to enjoy! Date: 11-21-98Banana Blizzards To serve about 10 children - Blend together one cup cold milk with two or three bananas in a blender. Ask the children to count aloud as you add ten snowballs (scoops of vanilla frozen yogurt) to the blender. Then invite the children to turn the blender on and off again to create the blizzard. Serve in 5 ounce cups
