I even used this project when I was working on getting my C.D.A. in Early Childhood and the professor said that she was going to use it in the rest of her classes.

Leaves, leaves, falling down,

falling to the ground.

Red, and yellow, green, and brown,

Idea:

This is a fun Scarecrow song:

The children all kneel and place their heads on the floor, covering their eyes & sing quietly -

When all the birds are sleeping and the sun has gone to bed....... Up .......... jumps the scarecrow and this is what he said - " I'm a jingle - jangle scare crow, (stretch way up tall) with a flippy - floppy hat, (use hand movements for hat) I shake my feet like this (shake feet alternately) and I shake my hands like that. (shake hands " )

We often repeat this song many times!

I am a preschool music and movement teacher. The following are two fall songs I have written that get the kids up and moving.

Leaves (sung to Frere Jaque)

This is an echo song. You sing and then the children repeat.

Leaves are changing. (kids repeat pretending to change their shirt like the leaves change their colors) All around. (kids repeat turning around) Red, yellow and orange.(kids repeat making a rainbow arch) Some are brown. (kids repeat)

Leaves are falling. (kids repeat wiggling finger from high to low) To the ground. (kids repeat bringing fingers to touch the ground) Floating on the breeze. (kids repeat lifting up arms and toes) Down, down, down. (kids repeat falling down to the ground)

This is the Way We

This is the way we rake the leaves rake the leaves, rake the leaves This is the way we rake the leaves in the middle of Autumn.

This is the way we jump on the leaves, jump on the leaves, jump on the leaves This is the way we jump on the leaves in the middle of Autumn.

This is the way we throw the leaves Throw the leaves, throw the leaves This is the way we throw the leaves in the middle of Autumn.

This is the way we rake the leaves rake the leaves, rake the leaves This is the way we rake the leaves in the middle of autumn.

This is sung to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"

All the leaves are falling down,
Orange, yellow, red, and brown.
Falling softly as they do,
Over me and over you.
All the leaves are falling down,
Orange, yellow, red, and brown.

As you sing this, you can have the children slowly turn and twirl as they lower to the ground. (It's a good "wind down" song after more active songs.)

My daughter came up with this idea for a catchy tune for fall

(Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)

Leaves are falling all around
Twisting and turning to the ground
I make piles all around
Them jump in them on the ground
Leaves are falling all around
Falling, falling to the ground

This is a variance to the "Five Little Pumpkins" Song, for those centers that don't celebrate Halloween.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate (five fingers up)
The first one said "Oh my it's getting Late" (Hands on Cheeks)
The second one said "There's a chill in the air" (arms around self)
The third one said "But we don't care" (swing pointer finger)
The fourth one said "We're ready for some fun!" (hand in air)
The fifth one said "Let's run, run, run!" (running motion)
So woooo went the wind, and out went the lights,
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

This is a great action verse.

I rake and rake and rake the leaves
Into a great big heap...
And then into the middle I leap.
I cover myself up to hide from you
And then jump out and say "BOO!"

Red, yellow, orange & green, Can you guess what I've just seen? Autumn colors in the air, Autumn colors everywhere.

Have the children collect colorful leaves and place the poem with leaves on clear contact paper. Cover with a second sheet of clear contact paper and add a string using a hole punch. I put two copies of the poem back to back so that the poem can be read from either side if it is hung away from the wall.

This little Fall song is sung to the easy tune of "Wheels on the Bus." Give each child a paper leaf for the movement portion.

The leaves on the trees come tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down. The leaves on the trees coming tumbling down, all through the town.

Five Little Leaves

Five little leaves so bright and gay (choose five children to be leaves) Were dancing about on a tree one day (children twirl and dance) The wind came blowing through the town (teacher pretends to be wind and blows very hard) And one little leave came tumbling down (teacher touches one child on the head and as she/he does the child twirls to the ground) Four little leaves... Three little leaves... Two little leaves... One little leaf so bright and gay Was dancing about on a tree one day The wind came blowing through the town And one little leaf came tumbling down. (all children are on the floor)

And then I came and raked them all up in a pile. (Teacher pretends to rake the leaves into a big pile. The children love to scatter at this point so you can't rake them up.
