Add raisins for eyes, nose, mouth. M&Ms are good to use too. May also use string licorice to form eyes and mouth. 10-6-00A cute snack for a harvest theme is to take Bugles, Fruity Pebbles and vanilla icing to make cornucopias. Scoop a little icing with a Bugle, then dip it into a small bowl filled with Pebbles.
9-10-00Everyone has great craft ideas using Indian corn. But did you know that if you put the Indian corn cobs in a brown paper bag (lunch bag size) and place in the microwave (with a dish of water for moisture, so you don't burn the bag), microwave on high for 3-5 minutes and you have popcorn on the cob. Really. It's yummy and fun to eat. Try it.

Date: 10-21-99Date: 11-1-98I teach preschool in a Catholic school and we de-emphasize "Halloween" so this year we read two of my favorite stories. "Stone Soup" & "The Little Red Hen". Soup from a stone? Fancy that! After reading a couple of versions of this old tale we talked about our favorite vegetables. Each child brought in a vegetable to add to the pot. We brought the pot to morning circle and read the story again. After the story each child brought forward the vegetable that they brought. They talked about their vegetable; it's color, it's shape and size; how it smelled and why it was their favorite. I had several volunteer parents come to school that day. They helped the children wash, peel, chop and count the vegetables. We put the water on added a stone, the vegetables, and some spices and let it simmer all day long. The whole first floor of the school could smell the soup. (It drove the school secretary wild) she loves soup! The next day we re-read "The Little Red Hen". Then I asked, "Who will help me make the bread?" The whole class shouted, "I will". So, again we got busy in the kitchen and made homemade bread. Weeks earlier we made invitations to the family's for a "Fall Harvest Luncheon". I'm thankful that we have access to the school gymnasium as eighty two people showed up. This was this school year's first social since "Open House". The children proudly sang some of their favorite songs. It went off wonderfully, families visited ate "Stone Soup" and homemade bread and a great time for all. 10-21-98 Name: Rhonda
