And you will help

To stop diseases.

Save dryer lint to make a big germ. Add some glitter and small pieces of different color yarn. Glue it all onto a small paper plate or construction paper. For a final touch add googly eyes. This idea was initiated by a teacher I worked in the past.

Idea:

We make sneeze pictures to illustrate how germs spread when you do not cover your mouth when sneezing. Take a piece of white construction paper, fill a water bottle with colored water and let the children spray away. We have the children "fake sneeze" as they are spraying their pictures. They love this activity and talk about it for quite some time.

Idea:

For an art activity for clean and dirty hands we had the children trace their hands then cut them out. One hand is left as is to represent the clean hand and on one hand spread some glue then sprinkle sand or glitter on. We did this during a hand washing theme. The art activity shows the children a clean hand and a dirty hand.

Wont You Please Cover Your Sneeze!

I have the kids decorate a paper plate to look like them. I use the multicultural crayons for skin tone. Add eyes, nose, mouth, you can ever add hair (yarn, etc).

Then trace the childs hand, color, cut out.

Glue tissue to hand, then glue both to the mouth on the paper plate.

I make a bulletin board with the title "Wont You Please Cover Your Sneeze!"

Idea:

For our two's we drew a picture of a tooth on a piece of white construction paper and then added some 'germs' (little ugly faces) then we let the kids use toothbrushes and white paint to clean the germs away. They all had a great time and it really helped them understand why it is so important to brush their teeth

Idea:

Here is a cute art project that I have done with 4-year-olds.

Materials needed for each child:

*a sheet of construction paper, any color *an oval and a tracing of the child's hand, both made with multicultural construction paper *yarn the color and length of the child's hair *googly eyes *a tissue *glue

Glue the oval to the center of the sheet of construction paper. Then decorate it to look like the child using the yarn and googly eyes. Glue the tissue over the spot where the nose and mouth would be, and then glue the hand on top of the tissue. You can use these with a bulletin board that says "Please cover your sneeze!", or write this phrase on each paper.

Idea:

You need baking flour to do this project. Place flour in a bowl and have children dip their hands in it until they have a bunch of flour on their hands. Next, have children take turns shaking hands and or touching friends and objects. As they do this they will notice that every time they touch something, some of the flour falls of or transfers to what they touched. Discuss germs, how they get passed and what they do to us. Finally, have the children wash their hands. Talk about how the flour comes off and how there is seemingly always some flour left on their hands. This is a good project to demonstrate the transference of germs.

materials: paper plate, strips of construction paper, a piece of tissue paper what to do: have the children draw a face on their paper plate, glue or tape on the strips of construction paper for arms and legs. At the end of one arm glue on a square piece of tissue. This is for covering their persons mouth. Talk about when you sneeze or cough - you are to cover your mouth so we don't spread our germs. My preschoolers just loved this and afterwards my Kleenex box was used frequently.

Trace the childs hands and help them to cut out. Then we spread glue on one, then put a tissue in between. Then we matched the other hand on top. Gave us a great opportunity to go over nose-blowing skills in our 3-5 class!
