Contact_FullName: Linda Contact_Email: Catwomanldb@msn.com Area: friendship art Idea: I draw a huge tree shape including branches. Then I let each child pick a color paint for their hand and which branch they want to put their handprint at the end of. At the top I write "The Friendship Tree". On the trunk of the tree I write the year. Contact_FullName: Kim Bright Contact_Email: thisthat2@juno.com Area: Misc. Idea: A fast and easy way to color pasta for art projects, math, sorting ect. is to pour pasta in a large Ziploc bag. Add an amount of rubbing alcohol to lightly cover pasta also add food coloring to the color desired. If darker color is desired add more if lighter only a drop. Close up bag and shake. After all pasta is colored spread out onto newspaper and within a small amount of time it is dry and ready to use. Very vibrant color can be made to string for pattern necklaces or to give on Friendship Day. Fast and Easy! Contact_FullName: Lisa Contact_Email: jimmynlisa@thegateway.net date:: 09/08/03 Area: friendship-art Idea: I traced a handprint of each child. I cut out one handprint of each of the classmates for each child for their art project. ( ex: I have 12 kids in my class, so each kid had 12 handprints, one of each classmate and their own. I wrote the children's name on each handprint. I cut out the center of a paper plate and let the kids glue the handprints around like a wreath ( you can also let them add buttons, sequins, ribbon, etc if you want or leave it plain). I printed off the poem below and glued it like hanging from the bottom of the "wreath" It was colorful and the kids liked having each others handprints. We called it "A circle of friends" Circle of friends poem: Our lives are filled with simple joys and blessings without end. And one of the greatest joys in life Is to have you as a friend. To be used with the friendship wreath art activity. Contact_FullName: Candy Contact_Email: Candyburris@msn.com date:: 5/01/03 Area: art Idea: take a picture of each child with a friend. The cut out lots of petals to glue on the outside of a small paper plate. After the children are done gluing, cut out the inside circle of the paper plate. Then tape the picture in the middle. I then put it on my bulletin board and it says If Friends Were Flowers I'd Pick You. Materials: Beads-enough for each child to have one bead represent each of his/her class-mates plus one per teacher/aide. Yarn Small cups to hold the beads-one each child. I first knot my bead on each of the necklaces being made to create the "stopper" when the other beads start to come. Form an assembly line type work station, some years we had to work in small groups, but the children love to see the project come "alive" when we all work together! Each child starts one necklace and we move down the line! Once everyone uses up all their beads we are done! I end this with a letter home about our friendship necklaces: who made it... Variation: "Friendship Pictures" using different colors for each child. Contact_FullName: jessica Contact_Email: jvread@mindspring.com date:: 09/23/01 Area: art - friendship Idea: While learning about friendship / teamwork, I have my students choose a partner to work with and then I use a fabric loop to "loop" two of their hands together. It is then that each child chooses a drawing utensil and together with one hand each, looped together, they create a magnificent work of art!
9-30-00I cut out a shape (like paper dolls) of two friends holding hands. The students chose a friend to work with and they each colored one of the friends. We wrote their names on the front and hung them on a bulletin board with the title "We are friends". I let a group of three work together if there is an uneven number and just tape an additional friend onto the other two. Some children may also decide to do this activity twice choosing a different friend each time.
9-10-00In addition to the Friendship Quilt art ideas...I also do a Language Arts activity in which I go around asking small groups of children to tell me why they like (a student) in our class. I write down their responses. These are written on white squares amongst the decorated squares with the child's name at the top. Example: it would have Jacob at the top and say things like "I like him. He's nice. He likes to be silly with me." (etc.) We read each child's square out loud when it's on the wall and it also stays up most of the year. I love seeing them blush when we read it. We often hear "What does my square say again?" Build that self-confidence!
9-10-00I pair up the children to color in a "person shape" to look like their friend (their partner). We talk about taking notice of eye color, hair color, what color clothes and designs on clothes etc. We write "Jack by Jill" for example on the top. These go on a Bulletin Board and the kids love looking at them.
6-4-00I titled a very large piece of cardex 'A Friendship Collage' and on the collage table I put a selection of items such a ribbon, feathers, colored match sticks, colored paper offcuts, confetti etc. Then children were asked to come in pairs and choose 5 items each to make a collage together on a designated area of the cardex. I then put the children's names beside their piece of the creation and when it was finished hung it on the wall. The children enjoyed doing it and love to show their parents.
2-16-00Friendship Tree: Teacher draws a tree trunk with branches using brown cardboard/paper and pastes it up on a board/wall. Then, each child uses paper of various shades of green, to cut into a shape of a leaf. Each child pastes their photograph on it and is guided to write a quote about friendship (i.e. Friends play toys together) on the leaf. They can decorate it by adding glitter, etc. Then, the leaves are pasted onto the tree.
ideaFor friendship week I like to buy nylon or cloth zippers and have children decorate them with fabric paint or markers or Date: 11-27-99ideahave the children place their handprints on a large piece of fabric or paper in a circular shape to create a friendship wreath. Then have the children decorate it with ribbons and other decorative items. Then display it on the wall. Date: 9-15-99
Date: 7-27-99Friendship bracelets - use pony beads and the thin elastic. Have the kids make 2 bracelets one for themselves and one to share with a friend. Autograph books - use construction paper for the cover and white paper in the middle. Have the kids autograph each others books. And of course the teachers should add a special note for each child in their autograph books.
Date: 12-3-98Friendship Quilt:Give each child a large size piece of construction paper. Put out pop-palms, glitter, buttons, foam pieces, pictures, or anything else you would like, and let them decorate the paper any way they want. Have them place their name on the paper. Hang it in a quilt pattern on your bulletin board and label it, Make new friends and keep the old... It's a wonderful way to show off the children's individuality.
Date: 11-19-98Give each child a 12inch by 12inch piece of construction paper. Put out some beautiful junk ( yarn tissue paper sequins cotton balls ' you get the idea ) Let the children create their own square for a FRIENDSHIP QUILT. When all is dry, connect the squares together and display for everyone to see. Mine will hang in the classroom for almost the whole year. It is remarkable how the children will continue to talk about it for a long time. At the end of the year I cut it apart and send the squares home. |
