The fishing song

(Frere Jaques)

Let's go fishing,

Let's go fishing,

At the Lake,

Oh it's great,

Early in the morning,

Hope the fish aren't snoring,

Hurry don't be late,

We're fishing at the lake.

Idea:

I'm A Little Fishy (Tune: I'm a

Little Teapot)

I'm a little fishy in the sea.

Won't you come and swim with me.

If we see a shark coming our way,

We'll splash him with our fins

and swim away!

With their hands in their pockets and their pockets in their pants have you ever ever seen the fishes do the hoochie coochie dance
do do da do do do da do do do do da do the end
(while singing this turn in a circle and then sit when it says the end)

Have you ever gone fishing (pretend to fish)
On a bright and sunny day (make a sun with your arms)
With all the little fishies swimmin' up and down the bay (put hands together and move like fish)
With your hands in your pockets (slap pockets)
And your pockets in your pants (slap hips)
All the little fishies do the hoochy coochy dance (dance)
BaDa DaDa Da BaDa DaDa (clap while singing)
BaDa DaDa Da BaDa DaDa
With your hands in your pockets (slap pockets)
And your pockets in your pants (slap hips)
All the little fishies do the hoochy coochy dance.

Here is a song I used and changed to incorporate the seasons:

Have you ever gone a fishin' on a warm summers day,
Have you ever seen the fishies just a playin' in the bay?
With their hands in their pockets and their pockets in their pants,
Have you ever seen the Fishies doin' the Hootchie-Kootchie dance?
You never did, you never will, boom, boom.
Have you ever gone a fishin' on a cold winters day?
Have you ever seen the fishies just a frozen in the bay?
With their hands in their pockets and their pockets in their pants,
Have you ever seen the fishies do the Hootchie-Kootchie dance?
You never did, you never will.
Have you ever gone a fishin' on a warm spring day?
Have you ever seen the fishies just a swimmin' in the bay?
With their hands in their pockets and their pockets in their pants,
Have you ever seen the fishies doin' the Hootchie-Kootchie dance?
You never did, you never will, boom, boom.

My son and his friend wrote this song when they were 12. I now teach it to my preschool children. To the tune of Row, Row, Row your boat:

Row, Row, Row your boat
Out on Hood Canal (see note)
Catch a fish
Put it in a dish
Eat it right now Yum!
(note-We live on Hood Canal which is part of Puget Sound in WA state. You can substitute your own local body of water)

Kids love this one!

Fishy swimming in a brook. (place hands together and make them swim)
Daddy catches with a hook. (Pretend you are fishing)
Mommy fries it in a pan (pretend you are stirring)
Baby eats him like a man. (pound chest gently while talking in a "manly" voice)

Have You Ever Gone Fish'in

Have you ever gone a fish'in on a warm summers day, and watched all the fishes in the water play. With your hands in your pockets and you pockets in your pants, have you ever seen the fishes do'in the hula hula dance.

Use appropriate hand movements to make this song even funnier. Of course you need to do the hula at the end.

Song Tune: The B-I--B-L-E that's the book for me.

I had a little fish. His name was tiny Time. I put him in the bath tub to see if he could swim. He drank up all the water. He ate up all the soap. Now he's sick in bed, with bubbles in his throat!
