Ask your children (one at a time or in several small groups) to give their best happy ,sad, mad, and scared faces. Then take a picture of them. You can make a small book, or make picture frames or just simply hang these up for parents to look at. You can discuss about different feelings. Parents love and adore this. It really is cheap if you have a digital camera and just print off on regular paper. Enjoy and have fun.
2-5-01A Bunch of Feelings Give each child several purple or green small circles. On each circle have each child draw a feeling face - happy, sad, angry, surprised, etc. The same feeling may be drawn on two circles. After the faces are drawn, glue the circles together to form a bunch of grapes, or a bunch of feelings.
9-26-00For the theme "feelings" have the children paint to slow classical music one day and fast classical music the next day. Compare the paintings as a class. Ask each child how he\she was feeling while they were painting to each type of music. It is very interesting to see the differences between the two. I posted both types of paintings on bulletin boards so the parents could see what a difference music makes!
9-17-00A great idea for "Feelings" art, is to take magazines with lots of people in them. Have the children cut out young and old, showing a large range of expressions/feelings, i.e. sad, angry, happy, silly, sleepy, worried, etc. and then create a collage on a large piece of poster board, heading it with "What Am I Feeling?" at the top. Hang to display.
8-27-00This was a fun way to show the kids how music makes you feel different. Give the kids paint, paper and a paintbrush. Have a tape recorder with different types of music (classical, rap, rock, instrumental etc) Tell them that when the music is on they paint on the paper to the speed and the mood they feel. The kids and I had fun, painting slow and relaxed to classical and going very fast for the fast songs. (We talked about feelings after: sad, happy, surprised etc.)
5-18-00To let kids express how they are feeling ask them to take out a plain white sheet of paper and ask them to draw, paint or even write some words which express how they feel at that time. Later they can exchange their papers with another student and talk about what they think the child feels.
