During a family unit in Kindergarten I did a math lesson that involved puppets. The kids cut out people shapes and dressed them in clothes that had corresponding stripes (on the shirt) and numbers (on the pants). After they made their puppets they played number games in which the puppets were named "Mrs. Six" and "Mr. Three". They had a lot of fun and practiced reading the numbers over and over during they puppet play.

I have asked the parents to send along a couple of pictures of themselves when they were kids so that the kids can play the game of trying to match up the parents with the child. It is funny for the kids to realize that their parents were little too and often the family resemblance is uncanny.

The mother takes the brother, the brother takes the sister, the sister takes the baby, the baby takes the doll, and now we make a ring.

You can also include the grandparents. Assign the children a role (mother, father, baby, etc...) Hold hands to create a circle and move in a circle, as you sing the family members they go into the center of the circle. That person chooses the next family member and swaps places, giving everyone a turn to be in the middle.
