Idea:

After reading The Grouchy Ladybug, my co-teacher made ladybugs out apples. You give each child a half of an apple. Spread peanut butter on the red part. Put chocolate chips on for spots and pretzels for antennas. Our kids loved it.

Reading Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a great way to teach children about eating healthy. After reading about all the food he ate, put the fruit that he ate out for students to try. (Plums, Strawberries, Apples, Pears, Oranges). Discuss with them that when the caterpillar ate junk food he got a stomach ache.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Cut an egg carton in half long way so you get a line of 6 egg holders. Line each with foil. Have children add yogurt for head. Add eyes and mouth using licorice, chocolate chips. In the first cup after the head have each child put in an apple slice, then next two pear pieces, three plum pieces, four pieces of strawberry, five oranges. They can dip fruit into yogurt.
