"I'm A Big Cicada"
(tune- I'm a Little Teapot)

Butterfly Hunting (fingerplay)

With a net I go hunting
To catch a butterfly.
When he's caught I turn him loose,
To fly back to the sky.

Here's a song when we do insects:

The fuzzy little caterpillar went up into a tree, spun his cocoon and then he went to sleep. while he was sleeping he dreamt that he could fly, when he woke up (sigh) he was a butterfly.

make all the actions with your hands.

When I did a unit on spiders and insects, I put a length of rubber rain gutter in the water table and placed a plastic spider in it. Using a child sized pitcher, the children poured the water through, washing the spider out while singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" ! They loved it!!!

My kids love the song "I'm Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee" and I heard it for weeks after our bug unit.

Editors Note----------Here are two versions of this song.   The first one is the traditional version and the second one is a version I came up with :)    Daylene

Traditional Baby Bumblebee Song

I'm bringin home a baby bumble bee
Won't my mama be so proud of me
I'm bringin home a baby bumble bee

Ouch!!!!  That bumblebee stung me!

I'm smashing up the baby bumblebee
Won't my mama be so proud of me
I'm smashing up the baby bumblebee

Yuck!!!!  It's all over me!!!!

I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee
Won't my mama be so proud of me
I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee

Uh Oh!!!!!!  Here comes mommy!!!!!
