Fingerprint Honeybees

Press your index finger on an inked stamp pad. Then press on a sheet of white paper. Make several fingerprints across the paper. With a fine felt-tipped marker, add wings, antennae and legs to your creations. Other bugs can also be made with fingerprints.

Have children paint egg shaped Styrofoam yellow. Help them wrap a black chenille stick around it and put on little black circles for eyes (punched from black foam with a hole punch). My kids loved these!

What you need: Brown construction paper, black magic marker, yellow finger paint.

First use brown construction paper to cut out a bee hive, then draw 3 to 4 horizontal lines evenly on the "bee hive". Then use yellow finger paint to make the bees. Let children use fingers or thumbs to make the bees. Decorate the bees when they are dry with the black magic marker. They are really cute when done.

Cut out the shape of a bee from yellow construction paper. Drop 3 marbles into black tempera paint to get them coated. Next place the bee shape in a rectangle pan or box with sides. Drop the paint coated marbles onto the bee shape. Have the children roll the marbles forward and backward, creating streaks of black paint resembling the stripes on a bee. Let dry. Now add a black pom pom for the nose, one wiggly eye, two antennae cut from black construction paper, and wings made from one fourth of a coffee filter. When complete hang on bulletin board and display the words: Busy "B"'s (to reinforce the letter "B").  This idea was taken from The Mailbox.

Make a large beehive out of paper. Staple it on your bulletin board. To make the bees take child size yellow socks, stuff with Kleenex Take black electrical tape and tape around the body to form the stripes. You can use black pipe cleaners to make antennae, use black permanent marker to put for eyes. staple to bulletin board around the beehive. This also gives you a 3-D look!

I am a preschool director for a church preschool. This fall our theme for chapel is The Bible Bees. I have a huge bee stuffed pillow, a bee finger puppet, bee stickers, and bee notepads to send notes to the teachers. Chapel will focus on character traits: Bee kind, Bee honest, Bee loving, Bee obedient... We are ready for an un "bee"lievable year.

Let children paint paper plates black and yellow. Glue them together (facing each other). Add pipe cleaner antennas and construction paper wings. Hang from the ceiling.

Take about 14 toilet paper rolls.  Use a glue gun to glue them together to make a honeycomb. You can paint it yellow after, add a few bees and use it as decoration or dramatic play.
