Idea:

A good dip for fresh fruit that my daughter's preschool class liked last year is 1 container strawberry yogurt combined with 2 cups strawberry or plain Cool Whip. We also threaded the cut-up fruit onto long wooden skewers and put them on the platter with the dip. (cut the sharp end off the skewer with scissors before serving)

I was reading some valentine's snack ideas, and remembered these yummy dips.

1st

Mix 2 parts coolwhip with 1 part cherry yogurt for a great fruit dip. Experiment with different flavours but we found that cherry works best!:)

2nd

I saw this dip made with marshmallow spread and the person mixed hers with juice, ours is slightly different.

Mix 1 jar of marshmallow spread with one small brick of cream cheese (room temp. so its soft and easy to mix.

Mix well and enjoy! Great with all fruits:)

And Thanks for all your wonderful ideas!

Idea:

I use different sized heart-shaped cookie cutters to create fun meals and snacks for the kids. They associate Valentine's Day with candy and other sweets, so I use the cookie cutters for making heart-shaped pancakes, sandwiches (their favorite kind), biscuits, etc (anything that's healthy for them). They enjoy the novelty to their everyday meals and snacks and are still talking about it when mom and dad come to pick them up at the end of the day.

heart cupcakes

this is so easy! just mix your cupcakes and pour them into a muffin pan as usual (be sure to use paper liners). then put a marble between the paper and the tin before you bake them. bake and ice as usual (don't forget, the marbles will be HOT!)....this makes a great and easy heart-shaped cupcake.

Idea:

For Valentine's Day, the teachers cut out heart shapes out of bread (enough for two for each child), bologna and cheese (enough for one for each child) and let them put together their own sandwich. This way if they don't like bologna or cheese they can choose to not have it.

Fruit Hearts

Simple, red, and reasonably healthy: "Draw" the outline of a heart shape on a paper plate for each child. Then place a bowl (or some bowls, depending on how many children you have) of red/pink fruit pieces (raspberries, strawberries, cherries-no pits) on the table(s) and let children make a heart by placing red fruit onto their whipped cream heart outline.

Idea:

Just did for Valentine's day for my son's 3rd grade classroom. I don't know if the kids were impressed but the mom's were. You can purchase colored bread from the local bakery. Some bakeries don't do it so you might have to check around in your area. It doesn't cost much more I think the loaf was $1.09 and it was medium pink. I wanted red but she said it taste bitter - so chose the pink. I put peanut butter and jelly between the two layers and then used a heart cookie cutter and it rather seals them.

You can do each layer of food item between bread (such as if you did the peanut butter and jelly. First the bread, then the peanut butter, then another layer of bread and then the jelly and then another layer of bread.

Another option is to do one layer with cream cheese and black olives sliced up and the next with spam. I know those don't sound good but really do a have a good taste when combined. Not sure kids would like it though.

Idea:

Because there is always too much emphasis on candy and chocolate at Valentine's day, we make a snack that fits into three food groups...we take a heart-shaped cookie cutter and cut hearts out of bread, sliced cheese and lunch meat (normally bologna). We set the three items out on separate plates rather than making the sandwiches in advance and let the preschoolers make their own sandwich, deciding if they want all three or just two of the three. Add some 100% fruit juice with this snack and we've hit 4 food groups!

Idea:

You can order colored bread from the baker at your local store. Yes pink or red or both. Then use the cookie cutters that are heart shaped that are open. Fill your sandwich with peanut butter and jelly but sure to not incase a student is allergic to peanut butter then cut out the shape (heart or what ever Valentine cookie cutter). They make up cute sandwiches. I've done this for Valentine's and the kids just love it. Some bakeries will cut the crust off if you ask.

For our Christmas party, we let our three year old preschooler put icing on cookies and decorate with sprinkles. For Valentines Day we wanted to use the leftovers and the kids had been asking for sprinkles, but we didn't want to repeat the cookies, so we decorated Jell-O jigglers with cool whip and sprinkles.

Our children are bombarded with candy/sweets at Valentine's Day. I began to make this special lunch as a way to "sneak in" something healthy. Purchase frozen bread dough. Unthaw and place in a heart shaped cake pan. You may need to stretch the dough to fill the pan. Bake according to directions. After it is cool, slice it to create a sandwich. Let your children decide on what type of sandwich they wish to create. Some suggestions: ham, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, turkey, mustard, mayo, etc. Serve this heart shaped sandwich with red fruit (apples, strawberries, raspberries, etc.), red/pink fruit juice. Our children really enjoy making this bread and deciding which fillings to use.

You do a real cake in a heart pan. Then you decorate the top by using little candy containers (like you find in a box of chocolate) you can purchase these at your party stores. Then put the candy container (wrappers on top of the frosted cake and add candy to each spot.) Looks like a box of candies when done.

We combine cooking, learning about the color pink (red + white), our shape of the month (the heart) and Valentine's day into one delicious activity. Prepare pancake mix, the kind that only needs water, the kids can help mix. Have each child squeeze some batter up into the turkey baster. The teacher then squirts the batter into the shape of a heart. Make enough for each child to have two. Then pass around a bowl full of "Cool Whip" and allow each child to place a spoonful on each pancake. Follow this with a bowl of sliced strawberries in juice. The berries and cool whip make beautiful pink valentine's hearts and some fine motor exercise as well.

I like to make a heart shaped cookie Pizza for Valentines day. I use the slice and bake sugar cookie dough. I slice the cookie dough about 1/4" thick and place on cookie sheet to form a heart. I press the edges together until it is one big heart shaped cookie pizza. I bake until golden brown, not too long, 15-20 min. Cool and frost with butter cream frosting tinted pink. Decorate with valentine candy, M & M's, conversation hearts, etc. This is a big hit! I deliver this to school in new Pizza boxes that I purchase for $1.00. Great for all ages!

Valentine's Punch

1 liter of Raspberry sherbet 1/4 cup of pineapple juice 2 liter sprite

Put the sherbet in the punch bowl, it works best if it is half melted. Next add your pineapple juice. Wisk them together making a smooth texture. Last, add the sprite slowly, mixing continuously until the punch bowl is full. This punch tastes great and you can use different colors of sherbet for different occasions. (ie. Lime for St. Patrick's Day)

When ever it is my turn to bring snacks for my daughter's class, she always asks that I bring fruit and dip. We are planning on using this for the class Valentines party.

Fruit and Dip

1 jar Marshmallow Cream

1/4 cup fruit juice (orange or pineapple seem to be best)

Mix marshmallow cream and juice until well blended. Add more juice if too thick.

Serve with apple slices and banana slices which have been dipped in Sprite or pineapple juice, canned peach slices, pineapple chunks.  Watermelon chunks are also great when in season.  We mix in red food coloring to create a Valentine theme.
