Idea:

Last year for our "staff" appreciation week, we did something different each day. Monday was a kick-off breakfast before school with a potted plant that was donated by a local nursery. Tuesday the teachers arrived to find that their doors had been transformed with flower shaped thank you notes from the students and parents from that class. Wednesday we made cookie bouquets with parent donated cookies. Thursday a two local massage therapists gave 5 minute shoulder massages to the teachers during their off period. Then parent volunteers made fruit smoothies for them to take back to the classroom. Friday we have a special luncheon in a nice quite setting and parents served the teachers lunch. The teachers were overwhelmed by this show of appreciation.

Idea:

Every teacher I have ever given this to was touched deeply. Make a book with the children's handprints is very easy. Without the teacher knowing, I get each student to trace his/her hand on white construction paper and write inside it: "Mr/Mrs.______ is special to me because ________. Love, _____ " Then I cut out the tracing and glue it onto colored construction paper. I punch two or three holes on one side and tie them together to make a book. You can make a cover by writing a famous quote or saying from a greeting card on the cover page.

Ms. Daylene:

I have started this now the last two years and the teachers just love it.  First I get baskets off season such as last year for this year I got Easter Baskets at 75% off at Michael's Craft store.  Then I start filling them - with pencils I pick up seasonable Halloween/Christmas/Easter (something a teacher can always had out).  I put stickers, envelopes, file folders, note pads, and all the little things I found.  Lately I found printable bingo cards at Kidsdomain.com and I then laminate them and do enough for the class size.  That way the teacher can use them each year.  They can use candy (like seasonable M&M's or Jelly Beans or an item) this year my son's teacher used pop corn.  I fill it with more things - the fun CD games you get off the cereal boxes in the fall.  I found some teacher Flags.  I included chalk that I picked up at JoAnn's in their kids section over the summer.  I give suggestions too - example: last year in my son's room they have to write up a line telling something nice about each person in the room.  Then they used the envelopes with that child's name and put in their response.  I found out my son is a camedian which didn't realize and then started to see it more and more in his personality.  They all said he was nice too!  Something you love to hear about your child.  I found this site http://holidayorganizer.com/gifts/giftsjar/journal.html#slips and printed out some - and put them in the basket for the teacher to use.

A really good time to pick up supplies is when they come out before school starts or there after.  Then some times you find the things they didn't sell they really mark down.  I just have a grand time filling it up and finding things through out the year.

I have two items I did this year. First one is I picked up an Easter basket after Easter for 90% off and filled it with everything I could thing of when it comes to supplies, chalk/pencils/jelly pens/envelopes/large manila envelopes/file folders and the list goes on and on - paper clips you get the idea.

Then the other was a candy gram - I used a clay pot - filled it with Styrofoam and then I put a die cut flower on the top. I printed out the candy grams and then put them on skewers. Then I cut the ends with decorative scissors and looks like flag. Then I added the item and stuck it in the pot. Added curling ribbon on the end of it. It looks really special. Turned out great. You can also use paint cans you can purchase from any paint store of Home Depot.

Teacher Appreciation Month

idea

For teacher appreciation week this year, our director sent home a newsletter letting the parents know that it was a week to say thank you to their child's teachers. In the letter, the director said that each day there was to be a different theme. On Monday, it was flower day. Tuesday was relaxing day which meant that any kind of bath soap, candles, body sprays or the like could be brought in. Wednesday was sweet day and any kind of yummy sweets could be brought. Thursday was note day. A day for the parents to write a note to their child's teacher. Friday was a day to bring any kind of gift to the teacher. The turnout was great and the parents were excited to get to do this.

For my daughter's preschool class I made her teacher a shirt and on it it said "My students walk all over me" and I had my daughter step all over the shirt with fabric paint. Inside the footsteps I wrote all her classmates names. Her teacher loved it and the class loved looking for their names.

I am a Preschool Director. Last year for my teachers I had a parent from each classroom volunteer to sit with the class while the teacher came to a nice meal away from the children. It lasted about 1 hour. We made the table very fancy. Each teacher had an apple candle that they got to keep that acted as part of the center piece. I also got gift certificates from some of the local restaurants. For those of you who don't know.... You can ask them and many of the restaurants will donate gift certificates for teachers. Have a Great Teacher's Appreciation Day!

Teacher's Survival Kit MOUNDS: for the mounds of stuff you teach. CRAYON: to color your day. PEANUTS: to get a little nutty. BAND-AID: for when things get a little rough. MARBLES: to replace those you might loose from time to time. SPONGE: to soak up the overflow, when your brain is too full. PUZZLE PIECE: without you, things wouldn't be complete. LIFESAVER: for when you've had one of those days. HUG & KISSES: to make everything all worthwhile. BATH SALTS: "to take you away" you deserve a quiet break. CUP: for when yours is overflowing.

Teacher, Teacher

Teacher, Teacher, Children seeker, How does your classroom grow? With smiles and tears, Hugs and cheers, And the sweetest girls and boys we know.

Daylene's Note:  You could make a really cool teacher gift using this poem.

Supplies:

Large clay pot
Wallet sized pictures of the children in the classroom
Florist Styrofoam
Peat Moss
Construction Paper
Popsicle Sticks

Cut one flower shape for each child in the classroom.  With a glue stick, glue each child's picture on a flower.  Attach a Popsicle stick to each flower.  Arrange the flowers on the Styrofoam in the pot.  Spread peat moss around the top to cover the Styrofoam.  Write the poem above on the pot.

Supplies are something teachers run out of each year, help stock them up. Stickers are a great idea.

Teachers should be the first people to appreciate each other. One idea is to write a kind message and tape it to a coworkers back. At the end of the day you can read all of the encouraging messages!
