New Year's Punch

Orange Juice

7 Up or Sprite

Rainbow Sherbet

Cherry (optional)

Children fill a cup with 1/3 juice and 1/3 soda DO NOT FILL TO THE TOP Add a small scoop of sherbet (Watch it fizz) Add a cherry on top and make your new year's toast!

Idea:

In my class we made firecrackers. We used a slice of white bread, with the crust cut off. Then you flatten it and put either red or purple jelly. After you have done that you roll it up and then put in a few pieces of shoe lace licorice, then you have an edible firecracker. They Loved It!

Lucky New Year Food

In many different parts of the country, it is custom to eat certain foods on New Year's Day. For instance, I grew up eating black eyed peas and ham on New Year's Day. My husband grew up eating pork and sauerkraut . The idea behind these special meals was originally bring good luck in during the new year.

Talk to the parents in your class. Are there any special food that they eat on New Year's Day? Ask the parents to bring in their New Year's food and have a "lucky food" pot-luck.

Edible New Year Hats

Materials: Sugar cones, cream cheese, carrot shavings, raisins, and dried cranberries.

Have the children spread the cream cheese on the outside of the sugar cone. Next, they can decorate their "hat" with the carrot shavings, raisins, and dried cranberries. Finally, EAT!!!! YUM!
