Misc. Activities
• From Kim at khiggs@Hopkins.k12.ky.us Our class consists of 3 & 4 year olds... We will send a special invitation to our grandparents to come "Celebrate Grandparent's Day with Us" We will sing a special song for them... The grandparent's will read a book to their grandchild. We will have a craft or two that we have made to present to them... (picture of each child taken with a digital camera, in a craft stick frame that each child has painted and decorated. .. we are also going to make a flower out of coffee filters that each child will paint themselves (a green pipe cleaner will be used for the stem).. The grandparent's will then be asked to join us for lunch. Include in the letter: "If you cannot come to visit, I would love to get a letter from you. Please mail it to me at: [school address]." Parents can give or mail this to grandparents. Prepare several for each child. I display cards and letters on a bulletin board and read them to the grandchild as they are received. When grandparents visit (I make this an informal visit for any day during one week), we have the grandparent{s} and their grandchild make a handprint side by side on one sheet of paper. I take a photo of them together. Later, I put the photo, handprints, and a poem together as a gift for the grandparents. During the visit, I invite grandparents to do whatever they are comfortable with: watch or join in with play or circle time, read to one child or to the class, share the snack, etc. I also like the idea of "Grandfriend" -- so that a child whose grandparents cannot visit might invite another special person. Featuring their grandchildren dressed in their grandparents clothes of occupation. The children can show off and tell everyone what it is their grandparents did or do for a living and what their favorite thing is to do with grandma&/or grandpa. Contact_FullName: Tiffany Contact_Email: Bree218@aol.com date:: 10-09-01 Area: Grandparents week Idea: As a reminder, several student of mine do not have living grandparents. So on our G week, which stood for Grandparents, we also included great family. We sent a note home the week before and asked for a family member to come in and celebrate a GREAT day with the children. This made the children who didn't have a grandparent alive or in the area able to celebrate with the other children.
ideaLet the children marble paint on a piece of construction paper. Cut the paper into bookmarks and laminate. With permanent marker the parents can write on the back the child's name, the name he calls that grandparent and the date.
ideaOn Grandparent's Day I invite the grandparents to come in for a luncheon and the children eat with them. We play Thanksgiving bingo and make a simple craft. They really enjoy this special day. Date: 10-31-99ideaOur class sent cards to our grandparents. Inside the card we sent the school's address along with a note to please write back. For the next three weeks we all enjoyed hearing from our grandparents. I also made a special bulletin board, at the children's eye level, to show off our special mail. Date: 10-11-99 |
