Let children paint plates with black or grey paint, then when it is dry, they can glue on eyes, ears, nose mouth, and whiskers. they can be used as a mask or cute decoration. Contact_FullName: Teesha Contact_Email: ziggysadie@comcast.net Area: Halloween craft Idea: Idea: Spider webs Take a paper plate and with a hole punch, punch several holes around the outside. Then fold the plate in half and punch a hole in the middle (this actually make two holes). Take a long piece of black yarn and have children lace it through all the holes. I start the yarn out in the middle and tape the end to keep it secure while they lace it through the hole. When they've ran out of yarn tape the end to the plate, and have them place a spider sticker in the middle of the web. Contact_FullName: Tiffany Contact_Email: tskala21@yahoo.com Area: Halloween Art Idea: Idea: Pumpkin Playdoh This great sensory activity starts with orange Playdoh and is so simple. The class can make it by scratch or the teacher can buy orange Playdoh depending on age group and time. Next, have children mix pumpkin pie spice with Playdoh to create "Pumpkin Playdoh". I also bought cool Halloween cookie cutters so that the children can use them with their new Playdoh . Watch out for little ones who might want a taste! :0) Contact_FullName: Michelle Contact_Email: msnowden77@yahoo.com Area: Halloween - Art Idea: Spooky drawings Give each child white crayon. Have them draw a spooky picture on a white piece of paper ghosts work well. They will need to press a little harder than usual. Once they have completed their drawing have them use water colors to paint over the entire paper. The drawing will 'magically' appear because the watercolors will not stick to the crayon. Contact_FullName: Aleesha Contact_Email: Angel_Aleesha@hotmail.com date:: 10/19/02 Area: Halloween-Art Idea: I am only 14 but I am practically a teacher. In the Learning and Developing Center I volunteer at I teach lessons after school. We have children there ranging from 2-10. I have to pick activities that are age appropriate for all and that are to hard or too easy. Just recently we made "Black Cat Bracelets" We took colored macaroni and stringed it on to yarn. I let them choose the length but most turned out to be bracelets. Then when they left I spray painted them black. They really turned out nice. Then I read them a short story read aloud about black cats. They loved it. Each day they wear their bracelets and I read the short story. Hopefully for our Halloween party we will have it memorized!! And I will send home the bracelets. Contact_FullName: Heidi Contact_Email: Killachic@aol.com date:: 10/3/02 Area: Halloween Art Idea: Get a baby food jar. Dilute tacky glue. Paint the jar with the glue, cover with orange tissue paper. Cut out eyes, nose, and a mouth in black paper. Put a tea light candle inside. Makes a great gift! Contact_FullName: Robyn Contact_Email: Chickenpattie2002@hotmail.com date:: 10/28/01 Idea: In my dare care class we made witches. First we traced and cut our feet out of black paper. then we used the part where our toes were as the bottom of the witches dress and the heel as the head we added q-tips for arm and legs. drew a face on it and put a hat on it turned out so cute. Contact_FullName: Cassandra Contact_Email: briatne@aol.com date:: 10/02/01 Area: Halloween-Art Idea: Finger Paint Pumpkins Materials: fingerpaint paper, orange food coloring, condensed milk Ahead of time draw a pumpkin shape on the fingerpaint paper, mix the orange food coloring with the condensed milk. Allow the children to finger paint the pumpkin on their paper. The finish results of this is amazing. The have a different texture than regular paint and the kids love the fact that it's shiny. Contact_FullName: Greta Contact_Email: Gholland@ymcasierra.org date:: 09/25/01 Area: Halloween Art Idea: Spider Webs Using name brand "Tacky Glue" put the glue all over Wax paper (you may want to help younger children because the glue is thick and hard to squeeze out). We then cover ours in black and orange glitter, but you could probably use any kind of decorative covering (torn up black paper, cotton balls, ect). Let dry completely for at least 24 hours. Carefully peel "spider webs" off of wax paper. You will have free standing spider webs that you can hang from the ceiling or in a window. Contact_FullName: Lori Contact_Email: lruiz1999@yahoo.com date:: 10/18/01 Area: Halloween Art Idea: Put white tempra paint inside empty 2-liter soda bottles. Have children roll bottle around until inside is covered in white. Let children make a ghost face on the outside of the bottle. Remove cap and let dry. Once dry, replace cap, tie string around top of bottle and hang around room. Contact_FullName: Vicki Contact_Email: vhenson@peoplepc.com date:: 10/19/01 Idea: Halloween Bottle Take an empty, clear 20oz bottle add orange colored water or you can have children add some red and yellow food coloring if you want to demonstrate how the color orange is made, add some Halloween confetti (bats, moons, witches, ghosts), glitter - hot glue or tape on the lid . Contact_FullName: Kim Contact_Email: Uniquelyyourz@aol.com date:: 10/17/01 Area: Halloween-Art Idea: Little Monsters... My home preschool group made these little monsters and each came out unique. We started with a squirt of paint on a plain piece of paper, then we took a fat straw cut in half and the kids blew the paint causing the paint to spread. The kids chose different colors and some did it once and others did it up to 5 times. Most turned out to be round like formations. After the paint dried they glued on eyes and feathers of choice. Looks good on black paper. This is an easy project with great results.
11-5-00Snow Jack-O-Lanterns. Our Valdez, Alaska preschool quite often has well over a foot of snow by Halloween. Since most outdoor activities are difficult we adapt. We made big round snowballs, then used watered down tempra paint in pray bottles to paint them orange. We then used black tempra paint to make faces. This was a lot of fun and our art work lasted for parents to see when they picked up their children.
11-4-00Coffee filter Bats. You will need a coffee filter, clothes pin, watered down paint, and a pie plate for this project. Place filter in pie plate for bats. Paint the filter black, then fold in half and pin clothes pin up the middle. Then paint pin black once they are dry you can hang them any where.
11-4-00Paper Plate Masks 1. Cut a sturdy paper plate in half. 2. Staple a tongue depressor to the bottom right hand corner. 3. Cut a slot in the middle of the half plate to look through. Present a smorgasbord of materials for the children to glue onto their mask. Mine consisted of feathers...wood shavings dyed range....yarn pieces....shiny papers....buttons... egg carton bumps... green Styrofoam pieces and brown curly nesting material. After the children glued these things onto their masks they could hold them up to their face Mardi Gras style. (<:)
11-4-00For a classroom or hallway decoration, you cut out 2 pumpkin shapes out of poster board. Cut a door in top one, open door and glue 2 shapes together. Cut out pumpkin seed shapes out of paper or poster board and write every child's name on separate seed and glue to 2nd sheet behind door. Then attach poem: Teacher, teacher, preschool teacher had a class that couldn't be neater. She stuck them in a pumpkin shell and there she left them very well.
10-30-00Using black construction paper as a background, use white q-tips as bones and let the children create their own skeletons glued on the black paper. You may break some q-tips into smaller pieces to make fingers and toes.
10-23-00First, we read the nursery rhyme Little Miss Muffet. Then we made spiders. The body and legs were made from black construction paper. Where the spiders body is we glued white paper and wrote, "I'm scared of_______." The children wrote what they were scared of. On the bulletin board we put Little Miss Muffet making a scared face. She is saying "I'm scared of spiders what is K119 scared of?" Display the spiders all around the bulletin board. For border we cut out white jagged paper and made spider prints using black paint and our thumbs. Then we drew legs with a black marker.
10-23-00Halloween COLORS Our program is a High/Scope program so we do not provide ideas for children for a completed project. That is left up to them. However, our parents still like to take home seasonal art work. Our way to make this happen is to see out materials in seasonal colors. MARBLE PAINTING We provide black and orange construction paper, thick orange, black, and white tempera paint in a shallow dish, shallow boxes (Lids from boxes for photocopy paper work great.) The child puts his chosen paper (orange or black) in the shallow box. He then dips his marble in the chosen paint color and uses a spoon to scoop it out and onto the paper. He now holds the box tilting it back and forth as the marble moves across. When there is no more paint, he can dip the marble again or get a marble in a different color. These are very dramatic to hang up on display. Variation: String painting. Child folds paper in half. Then unfolds it and puts a string with paint on it on one side and folds it over. He then pulls the string out from the edge. Interesting designs.
10-16-00You can make several different Halloween objects by simply painting your child's hands. First there is a bat. You paint both of the child's hands black with a washable paint. Then you have the child put their thumbs together the the other fingers spread out. And carefully place them on the paper. (for younger child you may want to do one hand at a time. The next one is a ghost. Paint one of the child's hands with white washable paint. Have the child straighten their fingers together and print on black paper. (make sure you push down on the child's hand to assure good printing quality.)
10-16-00I give everybody a paper bag which they can decorate using all kinds of materials (sparkles, feathers, etc.) They can put all their treats in it during our Halloween party.
10-7-00Handprint Ghosts-- Paint the child's hand with white tempera paint. Have the child place their hand (with fingers close together and pointing down) on a sheet of black paper. This can be done several times to have several scary ghosts floating through the air on a dark night. When the paint dries they may add eyes and a mouth with a black permanent marker.
10-6-00Orange - Jack o Lanterns Tools: Orange, and whole cloves. Have children make Jack o Lantern faces out of oranges and cloves. If they want they could also embellish with markers.
10-6-00Pumpkin pieces are great for paint prints. Cut out a few pieces of a pumpkin in face shapes (nose, mouth, eyes, etc.) and have the children create jack-o-lanterns out of pre-cut pumpkin shaped construction paper.
9-30-00Cut out ghost shapes of all different kinds and allow the children to decorate them with scraps of white material, cotton balls, tissue paper, etc. Paste a picture of each child's face on the ghost and hang on bulletin board with the heading: What A "BOOtiful" class!
9-9-00Paper bag pumpkin. Take a lunch bag size paper bag and crumble-up some paper to put inside. Tie the top with string leaving about 2 inches of space at top. Paint the bottom portion with orange tempra paint and the top brown (for the stem). Copy a leaf pattern on green paper and let them cut it out-glue or staple it to base of stem. If you'd like, you can wrap green or brown pipe cleaners around stem for vines. Also, you can give them different pieces of tiny black shapes to glue on to make a jack-o-lantern. |
