Firework Cake!!!!!!

For a fantastic creative treat, Make regular yellow cake in a big rectangular pan, follow the directions on the box. Then with a disk shaped cookie cutter, cut the cake into about 5 disks. Mix Red Pop Rocks into red icing or Vanilla with red food coloring. Then place the disks on top of one another with a layer of cool whip in between each. Surround the sides and top with your "popping" icing and add a sparkler to the top before serving. This will represent a fireworks fuse!

Everyone will be amazed to see such a sparkling desert!

4th of July cake

This cake is delicious! You need two plain pound cakes, fresh strawberries, blueberries, and cool whip.
First, you slice up 1 pound cake and layer it into a 9 x13 cake pan. Add a layer of cool whip, then slice up the other pound cake and layer it on top of the cool whip. Now add one more cool whip layer. Children can arrange the blueberries in the left hand top corner to represent the stars on a flag. Next, children can help to cut the strawberries in half( with plastic knives of course.) Layer each strawberry half across the cake (in rows) to represent the stripes. Leave a white (cool whip) space between each strawberry row. The kids will enjoy making this and have fun eating it too.

American Flag Veggie Plate

Ok.......this is soooooo cool!!!  I did this for Memorial Day.  Here is what you will need:

1 cookie sheet
1 shallow, square container
1 piece of poster board
Blueberries
Cherry tomatoes
Cauliflower stalks

Have the children help you wash the cherry tomatoes, cauliflower stalks, and blueberries.

Put the blueberries in the shallow container.  Place it on the cookie sheet in the upper left hand corner.

Cut the poster board so it goes from the edge of the shallow container to the edge of the cookie sheet.  You will also need several pieces of poster board that goes spans the entire length of the cookie sheet.

Place one of the pieces of poster board about two inches down from the top of the cookie sheet and have the children fill the space with tomatoes.

Take another piece of poster board and place it two inches down and fill the space with cauliflower.  Keep alternating tomatoes and cauliflower until you get to the end of the cookie sheet.

Viola!!!!!!!  Now, you have a yummy American flag!  You can also cut star fruit and place them on top of the blueberries for added fun.

I took a picture of this and as soon as it is developed, I will post it online.

I shared this idea with my online group teachingchildren at egroups.com (http://www.egroups.com/group/teachingchildren) and it was very well received! You can use this for any "patriotic holiday"! It could end up being the beginning of a cool science project too! Beverly

Patriot's Punch

One way to make a splash this Fourth of July is by treating your kids to tall glasses of Patriot's Punch. Simply fill one or more ice cube trays with a red and one or more trays with blue fruit-flavored beverage and let the cubes freeze solid. Then drop three or four colored cubes into each glass, pour in flavored seltzer water or clear soda, and watch the special effects. As the cubes melt, colored bubbles will swirl through the seltzer!

4TH OF JULY FRUIT CUPS

Ingredients:

Blueberries Strawberries Vanilla yogurt Clear plastic cups

Have children place one layer (one scoop) of blueberries into their cup.

Then 2 scoops of yogurt.

Then 1 scoop of sliced strawberries.

Then one more scoop of yogurt.

It is great to include the children in the preparation of the fruit from washing it, slicing it (if appropriate for your children) and pouring it into bowls.

We also use REBUS cards with picures and words for each step so the children can read the directions on their own.
