Idea:

In my classroom last year, i had quite a few children (both boys and girls) that had a very passionate interest in pirates. So for father's day i decided to hold an "Fathers of the Caribbean" lunch. Both the children and their fathers dressed up in pirate costumes (as did the teachers) and I hosted a lunch for them containing: fish sticks, chicken drumsticks, fruit, rolls, and red juice. Then the children practiced a song I created called "Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho, I really love my daddy!" And then each father/child duo got their very own "treasure map" for them to out to the playground and "hunt" for their "buried gifts"! The children really enjoyed this (but I think that the fathers did a little bit more):-)

Idea:

We have a 'Muffins with Mom' the Thursday before Mothers day. The mom's come to school and spend the morning with their child. They do a art project together, listen to a story together and the children sing a song to the mom's. They children have made gifts for the mom before this day and they present it to them. We take 2 classes at a time into our multipurpose room where the tables are decorated for mom and they have muffins with their child.
We do the same thing with Father's day except we call it "Donuts with Dad"
If a child does not have a mom or dad we let them bring a someone special in their life.
Parents love it!

For Father's Day, my Pre-k class had a fathers day car wash. We encouraged our fathers to come to school and the children would wash their car. We served snacks for the child to enjoy with his/her father. The students and fathers had a great time.

Idea:

In March, we have our dads come in for a "Dads' Day Snack Attack". Each dad (or grandpa, uncle, brother, etc) is asked to bring in a "prop" that will help him explain what he does during the day. Each child introduces his guest and then the guest tells about himself using his prop. The kids sing songs and present the guests with gifts. Then we have "snack" foods: chips, dip, and pop sometimes but usually juice or water. It only lasts about an hour, but we usually get 100% participation and the kids of course love it when their dads come. We display books about dads and families that the guests read with the kids.

Idea:

Our preschool has a "Dad's night" every March. The one "can't miss" activity is the banana car race. We supply each father/child team with a banana and other misc. items that they could use to create a car (wooden circles or milk jug lids for wheels, nails, popsicle sticks, paper, etc, etc.) They get a time to create a car then at the end we lower the legs on one end of a large folding table to make a ramp. Two at a time, we begin to race! The dads and kids alike have a blast!!

Idea:

This Father's Day, me and my 3 1/2 year old daughter are creating "Daddy's Day Cafe" by turning our eating area into a restaurant for Father's Day dinner. We are making a menu out of posterboard, decorated with food pictures from magazines. I have chosen appetizer and entree choices that are my husband's favorites. My daughter will be the waitress, complete with apron and nametag, and will bring her Daddy his menu and take his order. Then I will prepare whatever he chooses. Her contribution (with my help) will be dessert, chocolate peanut butter chip cookies. She is very excited about being a waitress for Daddy!!!

For Father's Day last year, we learned some songs about dads. We made art projects for them. We invited them to come for a lunch. The kids made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, we had chips and lemonade. Then the kids sang the songs we learned. The dads and kids then played duck, duck, goose. A fun time was had by all.

With all the different family situations these days, I have found that the term "Father's Day" is almost 'passé'. I have for several years now used the term F.U.D.G.E. Day instead. That stands for Friends, Uncles, Dads, Grandpas, Etc. It seems to go over very well with the men in the children's lives, because they feel they're all included!

For Father's Day, we have the traditional father's day BBQ. But as a fun twist, we have the father's and their children make bird houses out of wood. We set up a table with nails, hammers, scrap pieces of wood, and glue. It was something fun to do while the dad's and kids waited for their food.

We normally make father's day a celebration though out the day. Early in the morning we leave a sweet smelling shower gel and scrub brush in the bathroom for dad to find. When he goes down stairs he finds Starbucks coffee (extra treat) already brewed along with scones or muffins (Made the night before). While dads at work the kids and I make his favorite cookies. I make a huge dinner. This year it will be southern fried chicken, biscuits and honey, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and home made lemonade. Dessert? Southern bourbon pecan pie with ice cream. We then present our cards to dad and homemade gifts. After dinner dad goes up stairs to find Old Navy pajama pants laid out on his bed and his favorite cookies. Idea here is to just surprise him with little gifts through out the day whether you hand make them or buy them it really makes them feel so great. If you need any recipes, feel free to e-mail me. Thanks and go crazy.

To celebrate Father's Day...on the Friday before Father's Day, we have a drop-in breakfast. We encourage dads to bring their children to school and have a quick breakfast with them. We serve donuts, muffins, danishes, etc. along with coffee, milk, or juice. Earlier in the week, the child has made his dad a crown to wear and we deem the dad, "King of the Day." The dads are usually good sports and wear their crown for a memorable picutre with their child!!

Last year for a Father's Day celebration our preschool class invited our fathers to go bowling with us. We planned on going to a local bowling alley and we also used the party room to have lunch together. It was a fun day had by all.
