This is an Australian version of Jingle bells.

Dashing over waves at pool or crowded beach, Over the towels we go with sunscreen just in reach.

Bells on mobiles ring,

Amazing mozzies bite.

Oh what fun it is to sing a Christmas song tonight!

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. Christmas in Australia on a red hot summers day-HEY!

He was reading his list and checking it twice.

Oh, I hope my name he'll see.

We went out looking for a Christmas tree,

We went to see what we could see

The first tree we found was much too small

The second tree we found was much too tall

The third tree we found was much too broad

The fourth tree we found was thin as a rod

The fifth tree we found looked just right

So we chopped it down with all our might

We took our tree home and set it up straight

and everyone thought that it looked just great

Then we all joined hands and gathered around

The beautiful Christmas tree we had just found

"Santa Claus You are Much too Fat" (to the tune of Jingle Bells)

I heard a reindeer hoof, then Santa dressed in red came crashing thru' the roof, and landed in my bed. I thought it was a dream, but quickly did I wake, as soon as I heard Santa yell "I want a piece of cake"

refrain..... Ohhhh, Santa Claus Santa Claus You are much too fat I was sleeping peacefully but now my bed is flat. Ohhhh Santa Claus Santa Claus How much do you weigh? I'm glad I'm not a reindeer That has to pull your sleigh.

He got up off the floor and said "How do you do?" I said "my back is sore, my head is black and blue" "So sorry" he replied, and then he asked my name. He offered me a ride, I said "No thank you just the same."

(refrain)

I heard a "ho ho ho", the sleigh was in the sky but it was moving slow and wasn't very high It wobbled in the air, I hoped it wouldn't fall; Said Santa chewing cookies "Merry Christmas, one and all!"

(refrain)

...the kids have a BLAST with this, and the parents think it is hysterical.

Know that it is March and that Christmas is a long way off, but thought that maybe someone would be interested is the following.

Additional to "When Santa got stuck up the chimney" sent in by Cathy and currently first on the Christmas Song pages.

When Santa got stuck up the chimney,

He began to to shout,

You girls and boys,

Won't get any toys,

If you don't pull me out.

There's soot on my back,

And my beard is all black,

My nose is tickling too.!

When Santa got stuck up the chimney,

Achoo, Achoo, Achoo.

Was on the eve before Christmas Day,

When Santa Claus arrived on his sleigh,

Into the chimney he climbed with his sack,

But he was so fat - he couldn't get back.

Oh, what a terrible plight, gangway,

He stayed up there all night.

When Santa got stuck up the chimney,

He began to yell.

Oh hurry, please,

It's all such a squeeze,

The reindeer's stuck as well!

His head's up there in the cold night air,

Now Rudolph's nose is BLUE!!

When Santa got stuck up the chimney,

Achoo, Achoo, Achoo, Achoo, Achoo, Achoo, ACHOO!

5 Little Christmas Trees  (a fingerplay)

5 little Christmas Trees

Standing all alone

Their heart were very sad

'Cause they hadn't found a home.

Then chop went the axe

And down fell the tree

And off they went with a happy family!

(continue from 4-1 Christmas Trees)

No little Christmas Trees

Standing all alone

Their hearts were very happy

'Cause they all found a home!!!

I use the song BINGO and teach the children a song with lyrics as follows:

There is a man we know so well,

And SANTA is his name Ho

S A N T A

S A N T A

S A N T A

And SANTA is his name HO!

Each time we leave off a letter we substitue the word HO in its place. The children make a Santa and I give them the letters S A N T A to put under his picture. I also give them five HO's so that they can cover up the letters as we sing the song. The children learn how to spell SANTA very quickly and have alt of fun with the song learnign how to sing HO HO HO HO HO in a big Santa voice!

Clop, clop, clop went the donkey's feet.

Clop, clop, clop down the stoney street.

Nod, nod, nod went Mary's head

She was so tired, she needed a bed.

Knock, knock, knock went Joseph at the door.

Do you have room for anyone more?

No, no, no the innkeeper said,

I don't even have one more bed.

Wait, wait, wait the innkeeper said,

You can use my stable for a bed.

Shh, Shh, Shh what is that I hear?

The cry of Baby Jesus, oh so dear.

5 little reindeer, standing by the gate,

1st one said, "Hurry, don't be late."

2nd one said,"Did I hear Santa call?"

3rd one said, "Careful, now, don't fall."

4th one said, "It's time to load the toys!"

5th one said, " Merry Christmas, girls and boys!!"

I made little "reindeer heads" from brown paper, wiggle eyes, and red chenille balls, and attached them to each finger of little white gloves, for the children to wear while chanting this verse. They love it!

A SHY SANTA

Isn't it the strangest thing

That Santa is so shy?

We can never, never catch him,

No matter how we try.

It isn't any use to watch

Because my mother said,

"Santa Claus will only come

When children are in bed."

A PRETTY TREE      Tune: This is the Way We Wash Our Clothes (Have the children act Out.)

This is the way we look for a tree,

Look for a tree, look for a tree.

This is the way we look for a tree,

Early in December.

This is the way we chop the tree,

Chop the tree, chop the tree.

This is the way we chop the tree,

Early in December.

This is the way we carry it home,

Carry it home, carry it home.

This is the way we carry it home,

Early in December.

This is the way we stand it up,

Stand it up, stand it up.

This is the way we stand it up,

Early in December.

This is the way we make it pretty,

Make it pretty, make it pretty.

This is the way we make it pretty,

Early in December.

A RIDE FROM SANTA

If I could find old Santa, I'd ask him for a ride,

And in the wooly blankets, I'd snuggle by his side.

And when we go up high to the chimneys tall,

I would stay up on the roof for fear that I would fall.

And when the reindeer start to go,

I'd call Out loudly, Whoa!  Reindeer! Whoa!

TEN BELLS                  Tune: Ten Little Indians

Down the chimney Santa comes,

Dear old San-ta!

With a doll that says "mama."

Says "mama." Says "mama."

With a doll that says "mama."

Dear old San-ta!

(Encourage children to think of other verses)

Jingle all the way.

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh-heigh!

Jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way.

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh!

RUDOLPH

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose.

And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names.

They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmass Eve, Santa came to say,

Rudolph with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then how the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer, you'll go down in history!

JOLLY OLD SAINT NICHOLAS

Jolly old Saint Nicholas, lean your ear this way,

HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,

Right down Santa Claus lane.

Bang your stockings and say your prayers,

'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.

ON THE TREE

And this is the way it played for me.

Tra-la-la-la-la-la,

Here are Santa's little elves.

They run when Santa calls.

(Hold up ten fingers and wiggle them)

This is Santa's workshop,

Filled with gifts and toys

(Use both hands to form a house)

The elves and helpers fill the sleigh,

For all good girls and boys.
