THE BEST PART is I blow up clip art and make huge posters where the children put there faces in the cutout part and say, "When I grow up I want to be... so..." The funniest one was a girl that said she wanted to be a queen so '..no one can tell me what to do!" We end with playing Mary Had a Little Lamb on recorders and a slide show. Five students acted out the story of Goldilocks and the three Bears with all the props as I read the story. Then they sung the song "Cool Bear Hunt" by Dr. Jean. The parents loved it and we didn't need much practicing because the children knew the songs already.

We covered every available area with cut out stars in r/w/b. The aisles that the graduates proceeded down were also covered in scattered star confetti. The refreshment tables were in the same star-R/W/Blue theme, and flags hung from our ceiling tiles. We had several artificial ficus trees decked out in lights too! We turned the house lights off so that the children would be illuminated by the twinkling "stars". This ambience really was exciting for the children, and made it so special for them!!! I had 11 graduates, and we sang a variety of American songs, including "God Bless America", "You're a Grand 'Ol Flag", and several others, including two solos. The children then filed out of the room to dress in caps and gowns while a parent sang a very moving song to fill the time! The children then proceeded down the aisle to "pomp and circumstance" to receive their diplomas. The class was announced and the children sang Greg and Steve's "Goodbye" song. They then left the stage to a patriotic march. The parents were so thrilled with the ceremony, and many indicated that after the 9/11 attacks it was wonderful to see such a show of patriotism from the country's next generation. This year, we are planning a ceremony that is more light-hearted, and our theme is "Be All You Can Be!". I am still brainstorming ideas! Contact_FullName: chani Contact_Email: chanik1075@aol.com date:: 6/22/02 Area: graduation Idea: Dear Families, Our school year with your children has come to an end. We have spent the last few weeks in the classroom focusing on this important transition. We used a calendar, classroom discussion, and children’s literature to help with the process of separating from school and saying goodbye. We read Jamie Lee Curtis’ “When I Was Little: A Four-Year-Old’s Memoir of Her Youth.” This book notes a child’s growth by comparing what she is capable of now to what she was like long (or not so long) ago. We took time to note the children’s growth over this past school year. For example, at the beginning of the year the children didn’t know how to clean up. Now they have learned to take care of their room. It is helpful for you to help your child note his or her accomplishments in this way. We also read “Goodbye, Hello” by Barbara Shook Hazen. It is the story of a girl moving to a new home. She must say goodbye to many things- her room, friends, and neighbors. When she gets to her new home, she experiences saying hello to new things- her new room, new friends, and new neighbors. We discussed that we must say goodbye when school finishes, and spoke about some things we would be saying goodbye to. Children said the water table, the easel, and the playground. We also asked the children to share some things they would be saying hello to when school finishes. They said summer camp, swimming pools, and trips. We also have read Judy Osbourne’s “My Teacher Said Goodbye Today.” The children in the book recount their favorite activities from the past year. We discussed what some of our favorite activities have been. It was hard for the children to pick just one! After the discussion, the children chose a picture of themselves engaged in one of their favorite activities. They then dictated the words, or text, for their own page in our class book. The result is a collaboration by all the children. We hope it will help you and your child share memories from this past year. Separation is central to a three-year-old’s experience, and it is also a process which continues through adulthood. At the beginning of the year, our task was to help the children separate from home. Now it is time for us to separate from each other. We are very proud of the way the children have adjusted and learned to be part of school. Thank you for sharing your child with us during these most precious years. I make a balloon archway using royal blue and white balloons (these are our school colors). The archway is used in the center of stage behind the children. The archway is made by tying helium filled balloons to fishing line. We use about twenty balloons on the large archway. We make little balloon trees and set them all over the auditorium. The balloons in the balloon trees are helium filled and are also made by attaching them to fishing line. The decorations are beautiful and have become a tradition at our Preschool graduation ceremonies. It makes for a beautiful and exciting night that goes along with our graduation program. After the program is over, the balloon archway is cut and the balloons are given to the preschoolers as part of their gifts. In 2000, I used silver, white, and royal blue balloons to celebrate the millennium year. This year will have a patriotic theme. I plan to make three archways using red balloons at the top, a white archway below, and then blue. The children will be marching in carrying small American flags. We will recite the pledge, our flag song, and sing "You're A Grand Ole Flag". We wear beautiful caps and gowns that we order from Thomas Creative Apparel. The program consists of speaking parts, poems, nursery rhymes, and songs. Perfect attendance certificates are awarded and diplomas are given out. The parents provide a wonderful reception in the church fellowship hall. I have two nights of ceremonies to accommodate the crowd that attends. We have around 250 people on each night. It is an event that this small town looks forward to!
ideaWe did a book this year on Children, Children what do you see, after reading the Brown Bear book. For Graduation we took slide pictures of each child and as each child's picture was shone the children sang "Children, Children who do you see? I see Billy bob looking at me" to the tune of twinkle twinkle. The last picture was a class picture where the children sang " teachers, teachers who do you see" and all the teachers responded we see Preschool Graduate looking at me. As the pictures were shone the children also came up to receive their preschool diploma's. It was lovely.
ideaFor our preschool completion ceremony we taught the kids the words to "All you need is love" by the Beetles. The kids loved it and it went right along with our year long philosophy of friendship and love. lyrics: Nothing you can do that can't be done Nothing you can sing that can't be sung Nothing you can say, but you can learn how to play the game It's Easy... Nothing you can make that can't be made No one you can save that can't be saved Nothing you can do, but you can learn how to be you in time It's easy... All you need is love, all you need is love, all you need is love, love, love is all you need.
ideaFor our slide show presentation, we used the Ray Boltz song, "Always a Child in My Eyes". It was a great tear-jerker! We also used your idea about giving the parents a flower at the end of the program. Again, not many dry eyes and lots of compliments! We will do it again next year. Thanks!
ideaHere's a poem I wrote for the end of the year- READY FOR KINDERGARTEN My days in preschool are almost done, I'm off this summer to have some fun. Then on to kindergarten I will go. (My teacher says I'm ready, you know.) I've learned my colors and my shapes. I know the difference between monkeys and apes. I can sing and I can paint. I know to say "not" instead of "ain't." I know some letters and their sounds. We learned our streets and our hometowns. I can help and I can listen, Be nice to friends, but no kissin'! I'm ready to learn to read and write, And I know how to share, not fight. There's so much I already know. It's been lots of fun to learn and grow. I'm a preschool graduate-way to go!
ideaMy graduation is simple: The song Butterfly kisses will be playing while the guest are getting in there seats, then I will have the children sing, You Are My Sunshine, as they march in, they will each have a yellow carnation to go and give to their mom in the audience. We will go over things we have learned in circle time, Pledge, Days of wk. Months of the yr. and add some songs we have learned also.. I will follow up by reviewing what we did each month in preschool. Example (In March we put on our cowboy hats and visited the mini farm_) usually the children will say oh I remember that we saw ______& went on a picnic. So this is a great way to end the program.. I also kept a quote book I will read something that the child said during the year.... Hope this idea works for you.
ideaWe did this at a kindergarten party at a park. Each child brought a snack which name started with the same letter as the child's name. If parents remember this is for a "luncheon" they won't bring so much candy and sweets. You can be quite creative!
ideaFor our Pre-k class we made a very cute memory books which contains: their handprint, writing sample, drawings of their family and friends, a picture of them with their teacher and a letter from their parents so when they grow up they can read it. We have slide We sang What a wonderful world (using sign language), Barney song in Spanish, Goodbye song and You got a friend in me. Not only that we also have a encore song to surprise the parents "America the Beautiful).
11-5-00I take a slide of each child, usually with a favorite activity. As the slide is shown, more is mentioned about the child, especially his/her favorite things. A copy of the script is given to all the children. This year, with our new digital camera, each child will receive pictures of all the other children.
11-4-00For a really emotional ending, we have our pre-k children sign "You Are So Beautiful" at the very end of our program. As they file out they sing "Kindergarten here we come, We know we'll have lots of fun. Lots of things to make and do. Reading, writing, counting too. Kindergarten here we come, We know we'll have lots of fun." It's sung to the tune "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."
9-10-00We did our graduation this June and we had a really cute song
included in it. it's called "We are proud to be preschoolers" it goes: This is sang to the tune of "My Darling Clementine"
7-12-00Each year we do a different theme. One theme we particularly liked was "Chicka Boom Boom". We made beach hats out of wallpaper pieces, wore colorful summer play wear and sang Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We had fun foam letters to hold up on cue. We also always put in a song of thankfulness for our parents, and a fun song with lummi sticks or a song from Macmillan that the children select as favorite. It always ends up to be a tearful time no matter what our program.
7-10-00This year for graduation we have compiled some of the ideas found here and have included some of our own. The ceremony will have four parts: 1. Intro. Speech 2. Sample circle time: where we will do the Pledge of Allegiance in Sign Language, several color songs by Steven Fite, and other favorite songs and we will end with the song "I've Been Going to my Preschool" found here, and the Graduation poem found here. 3. We will wear graduation hats made ourselves and receive certificates. 4. The parents can browse the "Museum" where each child will have sample artwork from the year set in their own space. The parents will be given bags decorated by the children to take their child's artwork and portfolios home with them afterward. 4. In the remaining time we will have a DANCE for the children with some of their favorite songs while the parents can have refreshments and take pictures! Thanks for all of the ideas!!
6-16-00Last year, we had one of the teachers read Robert Fulghum's "All I ever needed to know I learned in Kindergarten". The parents thought it was cute.
6-11-00This year for pre-K graduation we made little "graduates". Each child traced a small cardboard body (like a paper doll). Then they traced a gown and cap for their doll. They drew a face and we added a few strands of yarn to the cap for a tassel. Cute!!!
6-8-00I have had a preschool graduation for 22 years. In the best interest of the children, we have simplified the program. We still have children make their own caps by drawing a picture with markers on a square of posterboard. Families are invited to attend and join in refreshments when the program ends. The children sing songs from the school year, then receive a 'diploma' from their teacher. Our program for the day is a keepsake which includes answers to the question: When I grow up I will be........We all love this special way to say goodbye to these precious children who have come into our lives at such an impressionable time! Teachers in my program also collect samples of work all year to include in a special "Me Book" which is given to families at the end of the school year.
6-1-00I know letters, I know shapes. Know that purple stands for grapes. I know red and white and blue. I know green and yellow, too. I've made friends and know how to share. What is wrong and what is fair. Know what policemen and mailmen do. Firemen and nurses too. I'm an artist, I can paint. I try hard not say ain't. I have rhythm, I know sounds. I've had ups and I've downs. I've been quiet, I have wiggled. .....worked all year as you can see. There now , aren't you proud of me.
5-31-00We give you back your child, the same child you entrusted to our care last fall. We give her back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible and more mature than she was then. Although she would have attained this in spite of us, it has been our happy privilege to watch her personality unfold day by day and marvel at each new achievement, each new success, each new expansion of self. We give her back reluctantly; for having spent nine months together in the narrow confines of a crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become a part of each other and shall always retain a little part of each other. We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned and enriched our lives together this year. We wish it could go on indefinitely, but give her back we must. Take care of her for she is precious and only one of a kind. Remember that we shall always be interested in your child and her destiny, wherever she goes, whatever she does, whoever she becomes. Her joys and sorrows we will be happy to share. Please call on us if there is anything further we can ever do for her.
5-28-00As with all preschool graduations, ours is a very emotional time, a time to say good-bye to the children we have watched grow an develop and to their parents. We are a program designed primarily for children with developmental disabilities but also have a population of about 40% children who are typically developing. For some of the children, this may be their only graduation. I pick a theme based on a song or idea with our decorations, slide show, etc. all tied into that theme. Over the Rainbow with the Wizard of Oz theme and The Circle of Life with the Lion King were probably some of the easiest. The slide show always brings tears as a variety of music plays through the baby years (songs such as Itty Bitty Pretty One), messy times (Wild Thing), parties (Celebrate) and special events (Police--Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This)--well you get the picture. We order our caps and gowns from Thomas Apparel (they have quality gowns at affordable prices--we have some, and the parents can order if they want one to keep). The awards and speech is based on the special milestones and development the children have made and/or how they assisted others who needed their help. I never get through it without tears--watching these babies take their first steps whether by feet or power chair and say their first words, whether by voice or sign, then to see the progress each and everyone has made is wonderful for staff and family alike. Our graduations have become legendary and are attended by friends and people in our community each year.
5-25-00Graduation Song (Mary Had a Little Lamb) We are here to graduate, graduate, graduate. We are here to graduate - on this special day. Patti and Daylene are here to graduate, graduate, graduate (fill in with students names. Students stand when their names are mentioned.) Patti and Daylene graduate on this special day.
5-25-00Ten tiny little fingers
5-25-00This is my first year teaching. Of course, my first Pre-K graduation, not only are my students looking forward to graduation, but I am too. The theme at my center is Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes. I chose Hey Diddle Diddle. We have been practicing for just about 5 days now and my students know the rhyme already! Everyone will wear blue shorts and we're going to create our own homemade T-shirts. Each child is a specific character. They will paint on T-shirts and wear them for the ceremony. We are even making our own background scene for the performance, but I still have to think about that a bit.
5-20-00Children love to perform and be the center of attention. I hold a graduation ceremony where the children perform different songs and skills they have learned throughout the year. The children walk to the stage in pairs to the Pomp and Circumstance song. The director then gives a Welcome speech. We then proceed by singing "My Name is" by Stephen Fite. The children recite their full names on cue. (This is really cute since some of the children have trouble saying their full names - it also gives each child a chance to have a part that is their own.) We then sing the "Seven days in a week" - also by Stephen Fite. It's a rock version - better than the worn out version "There are seven days in a week" The children sing this but also use sign language for each day. Then we sing and sign the alphabet. (Sign Language isn't only a language to learn but it is also a great exercise for fine motor control.) We recite a poem that I made up for the numbers - after it is recited all the children count to ten in English, Spanish, French, and Sign Language. The Children then are seated (on stage) and wait for their name to be called for their Pre-Kindergarten diplomas. They do this as Kenny Loggins "Return to Pooh Corner" plays. The children walk to get their diplomas and also get a yellow carnation - which they give to their parents. The graduating class is announced, the children move their tassels to the other side. We invite parents to come to the stage to dance with the children to the "Monkeys" There is a line in the song that says "We're the young generation" and after that line we yell "It's Graduation Day!" It's cute and simple - and parents love it!
5-18-00I have done many different graduation programs over the past 13 years I have taught kindergarten. Many are already listed here - themed programs, the year in review, favorite songs, etc. We have 3 classes now and have limited our "large group time" to a minimum as our gymnasium is so hot at night We gather for a few songs there, present perfect attendance awards, recognize outstanding volunteers, our education assistant, etc. Then we return to our classrooms where our students receive diplomas and "Kindergarten Star Student" awards. These are awards that we select specifically for each student. (Examples: block builders, math whiz, best printing, etc) We present our parents with a treat that we have prepared for them. I wrote a poem to accompany this. If you are interested, email me and I'll be happy to send it to you. We have made simple mints, handprint cookies, and heart in hand cookies in the past for this treat. Then the parents leave and the students and teachers have a sleep-over in the gym. We have centers, the principal comes to read our bed-time story, and the children HOPEFULLY fall asleep watching a Disney movie. This has become a tradition in our school and everyone gets excited about it.
5-18-00This year we are doing the circus as our end of the year theme. Each board in the room has a different circus train, and of course the big top. As a part of our graduation, we will "sell" tickets to the parents and friends of the children, and invite them for hotdogs, cotton candy, balloons and entertainment by their children. The teachers of the room plan on dressing as ring leaders and we have asked each child to come dressed as a clown or a circus animal for a day at the circus!
Date: 3-30-00A wonderful song we use at our graduation is "No one tells the President" from Mary Kate and Ashley . We hold American flags and Signs that say "preschoolers for President". The parents love it. It is a little long so we learn it a little at a time with picture cue cards. We also do the ABC rock and the Number Rock. We order adorable caps and gowns and have refreshments following the ceremony.
Date: 3-5-00Here's a graduation day song to the tune of "I've Been Working on the Railroad". I've been going to my preschool, All the whole year long. I've been going to my preschool, And I've learned a lot of songs. I can count and say the letters, I know my colors too. I've been going to my preschool, All the whole year through. Graduation day, graduation day, Graduation day is finally here. Graduation day, graduation day, Graduation day is here. Kindergarten, here I come. Kindergarten, I am on my way. Kindergarten, here I come. Happy Graduation Day!
Date: 2-9-00For my son's preschool graduation I'm going to do a variation of a Christmas cracker as a favor for the children.. Take a TP tube (or paper towel tube cut to a 4 inch length. Fill with wrapped candies or small treats, and use a piece of grad wrapping paper cut into an 8 inch square, wrap it around the tube, secure the paper with tape, and tie a ribbon at both ends of the tube to keep the contents from falling out.
Date: 1-31-00During the week before graduation, we trace each child's body on large mural paper. The children then "decorate" themselves, adding facial features, hair, and clothing. We hang these up all around the room on graduation day, and then the families take them home. It is a really cute display!
12-6-99Our graduation day is very special at our school. Since we are a church Preschool our graduation is part of our Chapel time. We have seven PS4's classes and we set up our rooms with different activities for the morning. Each teacher has their favorites and the kids have their favorite activities. We travel from room to room celebrating each of those activities and at the end all go to Chapel and talk to God. We sing all of our favorite Chapel songs and end with our school song that asks God to watch over us as we play. Then we go to the" big room" for a light lunch.
idealast year our theme was "it's a small world". we sang the verse at the beginning. each group did a song from a song or a fingerplay. my group did a medley of "twinkle, twinkle little star" ,"baa, baa black sheep", and the" abc song". before they marched out,the graduates sang "it's time to say goodbye ".we had refreshments served .i teach noncat. preschool, so this was a big step for the parents, as well as the students. there were 14 noncat students to graduation those,9 went on to regular kindergarten. Date: 1-25-99We make and wear caps. Usually a parent can play POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE on a keyboard. Children parade into our room. We review the year with songs, fingerplays or dances. We end with the rewrite of Zippety Doodah as follows: Zippety doodah zippety A My oh my summer's coming our way Plenty of sunshine swimming and play Zippety doodh zippety A There's a sadness in the air It's over, it's done, and wasn't (school or class name) fun Zippety doodah, zippety A. Summer is coming, Graduation's today. Then we call each child up individually to receive the following: Diploma, Yearbook which contains a page of dictation for each theme (involving critical thinking or creative thinking. Also, we have a buddy class (third grade) with whom we meet at least once a month. They use the opportunity as a writing experience. We take photographs and the third graders make "Buddy Books" as a gift to the graduate. It's quite appreciated by the families involved. 9-14-98 Name: Melissa E-Mail: bclark@dbis.ns.ca For our graduation ceremony we did a skit on Old Macdonald had a farm. We used old refrigerator and stove boxes for the farm and had the children paint them.(cut a door in the front and back of farm for easy entry and exit) We used deviders for a pen painted to look like a fence. The children made costumes to look like animals and we had a "farmer" to guide the children from the farm to the pen. Each child made the sound of the animal they were and one of the teachers sang the song. We had 15 graduates and it was an easy way to get all the children to participate. The children really enjoyed making their own costumes and making the set.Our parents were all very impressed with all the work every one put into it. They laughed and clapped through the whole song. We had some children who really hammed it up, so they were a real hit. Try to get an animal that matches the child's personality. 7-9-98 Name: Alison E-Mail: cooter697@aol.com A cute poem that we use for our alamater! I know numbers, I know shapes, I knows that purple stands for grapes. I know red and white and blue, I know green and yellow too .I know what police officers and mayors do, firefighters and nurses, too. I'm an artist, I can paint. I try hard not to say ain't. I have rhythm, I know sounds. I've had ups and I've had downs. I've been quiet, I have giggled.I've sat still, at times I've wiggled. I've worked all year for this degree, there now aren't you proud of me!! We use this poem in our yearly preschool graduations and the parents love hearing the children say it! 7-1-98 Name: Katherine E-Mail: DKBOARD@AOL.com Our annual graduation opened with all the graduates singing a "Welcome" song. This was followed by a review of the school year...,a teacher would read a brief verse about the month...just a few lines about what our theme that month had been. Then a group of children would come forward to do a fingerplay, act out a poem, perform to a record, sing a song ......or whatever they had learned during that month. All children were included as part of a group......some months had several items (November and February ...) some just one. As the children were using things they had learned before, the program could be put together quickly. Several classes can share the months if you have two classes at the same age level.Use the craft ideas you did that month for props (save some as you go along !!) and it will come together easily.End with a group song and the diploma presentation. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you want!! 6-30-98 Name: Jennie E-Mail: TeachPixie@aol.com This year we had an excellent Graduation for our 4 year olds!! 1. We did the Pledge of Allegiance 2. Skidamarink - we did the hand actions for this 3. 5 Big Dinosaurs - Fingerplay with cutout T-Rex's. We picked 5 children to hold the BIG dinosaurs. 4. ABC Rock - from a Greg & Steve album. The children held up large laminated ABC letters. They love this song-it rocks... LOL. 5. Rumble Boogie - from Newbridge Records. The children stood up in front of their chairs and danced. 6. Spooky Walk - again from Newbridge Records. This was our favorite. We had cutouts of a witch, black cat, and a moon. Then we turned off the lights and had a spotlight on the cutouts. Then, this was our favorite part, we bought neon glow in the dark glasses and when it came to a part that said "see", the children would put their glasses on. It was soooo cooooooool (As the children would say). We also handed out diplomas and did Pomp and Circumstance. The parents watched a video while we got our caps and gowns on. As for a present for the children, they got to keep the cool glow in the dark glasses and also received a smiley face graduation necklace. The glasses and necklaces were purchased from The oriental Trading Company.....Enjoy!!!!!! 6-16-98 Name: Jocelyn E-Mail: dandj@intergrafix.net We had our graduation last night, and the best part was when the children sang "You are my sunshine" and presented yellow carnations to their parents. There wasn'ta dry eye in the room. 6-14-98 Name: Adrienne E-Mail: GloryLight@AOL.com During the year we keep a quotable quotes book in our room. We've all heard children say things that are so cute they just beg to be written down. These are the things we write inour quotable quotes book. At graduation as we call the children's names to walk down the aisle (in full cap and gown) to recieve their diplomas we read our favorite quote they gave us during the year. The parent seem to really love this. At our end of the year picnic we do some thing a bit different in that we give each child an award outlining thier special interests. Such as: Class Computer Whiz for the little guy who couldn't stop playing on the PC, or Best Hugs to the little girl whose arms are always ready for a hug! 5-26-98 Name: Teri E-Mail: Teri123@yahoo.com On the tape Pre-K Hooray there is a great song to use as a preschool pomp and circumstance. It is called Graduation Day. It will bring tears to everyone's eyes. 5-15-98 Name: Teri E-Mail: Teri123@yahoo.com The last two weeks of pre-school our theme is artists. At our spring program we set up an art gallery. I showcase some of the kids artwork and mention that we do not have to be famous and have our work is museums, books, etc. to be an artist. The kids loved this. They enjoyed looking at each other work and always had great comments about each piece of work. After the graduation we also have a reception. I asked each family to bring one snack item and a two liter of soda. After the show we ate and visited. It was a very relaxing evening. 5-12-98 Name: Lynne E-Mail: Mrslynne@aol.com At our preschool graduation we have each child get up and say a nursery rhyme that they have been working on for about the last month.. They get up in front of the circle at circle time and recite their chosen poem. Each child has different one to do. We also all do group songs and finger plays together. The parents and grandparents are invited. and each child wears a little graduation cap made out of poster board, and they each receive a diploma. We get many great responses from parents on this and it is really quite simple. The children are all so proud of themselves and we are proud of them as well. Mrslynne@aol.com 2.9mo to 5 year-olds 5-1-98 Name: Cheryl E-Mail: Tugboat63@aol.com This year my theme for graduation is " Cada Nino " it means Every Child. I have taught the boys and girls a Spanish song performed by Trish Hinojosa entitled " Cada Nino " and they will like every graduation receive the diploma. Afterwards we will be having a Mexican Potluck ! Like every year we are excited. 4-10-98 Name: Diane E-Mail: tlldsl@bright.net At graduation, we make our hats out of styrofoam bowls and white poster board. We make tassels out of yarn and attach them to the hats with metal brads. We print diplomas for each student and ask a prominent person in our society to hand out the diplomas to the children. When their name is called they get to shake the persons hand while their teacher turns their tassel. The children feel very special and can't wait for the cookies and punch afterwards! 4-10-98 Name: Barbara E-Mail: Barbmc93@aol.com Graduation-We usually have a theme: cowboys, growing up, sky, etc. We sing 4 -5 songs about that theme. The kids illustrated the words to the song, phrase by phase. The illustration is hung so the children can see it and read the pictures to the songs. The words are there too for the teachers. We give each child a symbol of the theme to take home: hat, magic wand, flashlight, etc. 3-29-98 Name: Dolores E-Mail: Dmrkids@aol.com We have a luncheon so the parents can attend. We usually end up with over 100 people. The parents drop off their children in the classroom and find a seat in the all-purpose room. When all the children have arrived we all say goodbye and wish each other great things and have a group hug. We all process into the all-purpose room and sit together. I present each child with a special award that is brought to mind when I review our time together. At the same time I give them a diploma. Our room is decorate with balloons attached to bubbles which is my gift to each graduate. We have finger sandwiches, fruit and chips and a cake for dessert. 3-8-98 Name: Cheryl E-Mail: jwarner@kusd.edu At graduation time we make silhouettes of all the graduating preschoolers in our building. We then put graduation caps on them with each class having their own color cap. The children than are not graduating may also be included by placing them in a crown instead of a cap and gown. This is a pretty impressive display in a entry way to a preschool. 3-8-98 Name: Donna E-Mail: tomzahorec@msn.com We take photos of our pre-kindergarden students throughout the year using slide film and give a slide show at the graduation ceremony set to music like Duke Ellington's "It's A Wonderful World", Bob Carlisle's "Butterfly Kisses" and Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath my Wings." Afterwards, we have to walk up and down the aisles passing out tissues to all of the teary-eyes parents and grandparents! It's a very effective and sentimental presentation. 3-8-98 Name: Diana E-Mail: USAFLadyDi@aol.com For our graduation ceremony we plan to march in wearing caps and gowns with tassels. A piano player will be playing Pomp and Circumstance. We'll be blowing bubbles. During the ceremony I'll read a list covering each student including "What my teacher thinks I'll be when I grow up". We'll also sing our favorite songs from the whole year. At the reception there will be one big cake with all the graduates' names on it. The children will make invitations and the teachers will design the program cover. 3-6-98 Name: Cheryl E-Mail: Tugboat63@aol.com I have had preschool graduation for several years now. I begin with a theme. So far I have used our earth ( music would include songs from Raffi), Growing ( ideas would be doing some basic skills learned) tracing bodies and displaying them throughout the area used. Movement, ( using movement music, things done as a group) What I will be when I grow up! ( children dress as their occupation of the future and tell why) Flight ( children going on to big school using a poem that is wonderful e mail me for it! the children again dressed as occupation and releasing butterflies at the end. My ideas begin with one song. Example the ceremony about flight we sang " I believe I can fly" from Space Jam.Begin with one song for either the graduating children to sing or everyone then tie it all in together using dramatic play etc. The ending is a diploma and a good bye song followed by refreshments, oh I always cry! Please e mail me for specifics.Have Fun! 3-6-98 Name: Julie E-Mail: BandJSouva@AOL.com For preschool graduation our school does the following: Each child has a Graduation hat Behind them is a banner made on a sheet with a rainbow made of all the children's hand prints.
