This year I took close ups of each child's face and blew it up to 8X10 size in black and white. These pictures decorated our walls - We sing songs about the alphabet, months, days, etc. We do the pledge of allegiance in sign-language. THE BEST PART is I blow up clip art and make huge posters where the children put there faces in the cutout part and say, "When I grow up I want to be... so..." The funniest one was a girl that said she wanted to be a queen so '..no one can tell me what to do!" We end with playing Mary Had a Little Lamb on recorders and a slide show. I hand out candy bar awards, SMARTIES, etc. and have root beer floats. It was simple and awesome. Awesome Blossom Preschool, Fun Name, Fun School

Last year our theme was "A 'Beary' Special Pre-K End of Year Celebration". The girls sung I'm a Little Teapot and the boys sung Humpty Dumpty along with dance moves to the song. The whole class sung the Ten Little Bears (tune to ten little indians). Five students acted out the story of Goldilocks and the three Bears with all the props as I read the story. Then they sung the song "Cool Bear Hunt" by Dr. Jean. We had a parent tribute, gave out awards and certificates and had refreshments afterwards. Parents and grandparents and family were invited.

This year I thought that instead of teaching the children new songs I decided to do something called "SHOW OFF TIME" we sang different songs which we learned during the year. I Have 11 children in my class so each child held a letter to spell out the words "show off time" we sang songs that go through the year . The parents loved it and we didn't need much practicing because the children knew the songs already.

For our graduation we march in with a patriotic song (Three Cheers for the Red, White and Blue.  When the children enter the stage they ask the parents to please stand for the Pledge of Alligence. Then they ask the parents to be seated. The children finish singing 3 more songs with movements included. I announce the graduates certificates. Finally we end with a final song (The Rainbow Song). After the final song I ask the children to go sit with their families to watch a slide show of what the kids did all year. Somewhere Over the Rainbow is included with the slide show. After the ceremony I invite the children and families for refreshments in our classroom.

Brandon says thank you,

Emma likes horses,

we all must move on

This is my first year actually working with Head Start. My center is very large, so we hold graduation for three days. There are five classes for each day. The five classes sing three songs and each teacher announces their graduate's name and hands them a diploma as they walk across the stage. I decided to hold an awards ceremony in my classroom after graduation for the non-graduates. We have most improved, perfect attendance, most hopeful, etc. awards. The children sing three to four of their favorite songs for their parents as well. The children chose the songs and the refreshment menu. They even helped in the preparation of the finger sandwiches. I also gave rewards to my parents that participated throughout the year. I made each child a mini-yearbook of digital photos and silly captions from our class photos that we took throughout the year. That way all of the children will be included and no one is left out.

Although in the past I have done the "live" performances, I have decided to do more of a multimedia one this year. Our theme is Nursery Rhymes. The children are singing 5 different songs from the Jack Hartmann CD's. We are recording them in advance so that the day of the program, the children can sit with their families. We will start out with a slide show of the year in review and then move on to the program. At this point, the children can choose to stand up and sing, or just sing along, the parents too as we are distributing the words. then we will have the graduation song (again on tape) and then our award ceremony in which everyone gets an award. I teach 3-5yo's.

I operate a day care. This year was the very first year I did a graduation/moving up ceremony for my 3 and 4 year olds. I must say that it was a huge success! The children wore their dad's white dress shirts backwards as gowns and I ordered cap from Oriental Trading. I printed up programs for all the parents, grandparents and friends to follow along with. I started by being introduced by my husband. I gave a well prepared speech, not long winded just from the heart. The parents loved it! Some were teary eyed. I then had the song, " Let Them Be Little" by Billy Dean played. On the last verse the children walked to their awaiting chairs in their caps and gowns. The song is so moving. I have to say I didn't see a dry eye in the audience. The children then sang, "Kindergarten Here We Come" and then "We Have Super Manners". They then recited the poem, "Do You Remember Last Fall? ". The parents all were snapping pictures through their tears and also video taping too! I was so proud of my little ones! At the end of the ceremony I gave each child a gift (sand pail with a picture of them in their cap and gown in a special picture frame, graduation necklace (purchased at Oriental Trading) and a stuffed bear in a graduation cap and gown, along with their diploma. Finishing touch was a flower to each child to give to his mom. The families all brought a dish and I provided hotdogs and hamburgers for a huge barbeque immediately following the ceremony. The parents could not stop telling me how wonderful everything was. I was on an emotional high for days!!!!

The children wear cruise wear all week; we play Caribbean music, bring beach towels and relax! The last day of school is our graduation and all school luau. The graduates wear a white T-shirt that says, "Aloha Class of 2005" with a hibiscus drawn on the front and the autographs of children on the back. After reading a bunch of awesome ideas from this site this is what I complied for a short and simple graduation ceremony. The children wore red caps and gowns made by a volunteer seamstress. The children walked on to a small stage singing the "We Are Here To Graduate" Song that I believe I found on this site. (Thank You) The words were: We are here to graduate, graduate, graduate. We are here to graduate on this special day sung to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb". When they were all on the stage they sang the song one more time. Then they sang "I'm A Little Graduate" which was also I believe found on this site. It's an adorable song sung to "I'm A Little Teapot" that goes like this: I'm a little graduate, dressed in red, wearing a gown and a cap on my head. When I leave preschool, I will be, a kindergarten student, aren't you proud of me. I made up little movements for the children to act out the song. Next they all sat down and pulled out pre-decorated shapes (circle, square, triangle and rectangle) from under their chair and performed the movements to "Shapes" by Greg and Steve. The song tells each shape to stand up or sit down so the children have to listen for their shape and then follow the direction. Its a fast happy song. After this song I called each graduate by their first name to come up to the front of the little stage and had them state their full name, age, address, birthday, phone number, spell their name and what they wanted to be when they grew up. I handed each one their diploma and let them stand holding it to receive applause and get their picture taken. Then to end the ceremony the children sang a Thank you song that I created also to the tune of "Mary had a little lamb" that goes like this: We thank you all for coming here, coming here, coming here. We thank you all for coming here, on this special day. They sang this song once. Then I switched on a prerecorded cassette that had the children singing this song 4 times in a row and while the tape was playing the children

Each year I try to come up with a different style of invitation for the class graduation! This years cards would be very easy for anyone to try with their class. I precut cards and wrote the appropriate information inside for parents. The front of the card had a drawing done by each child depicting their day at school, with a caption saying "You Are Invited." The children decorated their cards using crayons, paints, markers, glue and odds and ends! They had a blast! It is important however to supervise them during their creative process and remind them where it is ok to decorate, and where on the card it is not (like over the words explaining dates and times). As a final touch, once all of the cards had dried, glued inside the left inside panel a photocopy of our class picture! The children loved the invitations as well as their families! Some of the parents even told me that their children have slept with the cards!
Hope this helps anyone in a pinch :)

We are singing "El Coqui" from Wee Sing All Around the World and Bein' Green by Kermit the Frog. Last November the children voted on a name for our class and we are the Pre-K Frogs. The kids have had a blast with it! They're singing ABC Rock just because it's so much fun! As a love song to their parents, the children are singing the Alphabet Love Song. We will have a slide show entitled "A Hop Through Our School Year". Besides the basic diploma distribution, each child will receive an award that sets them apart from the other children...from the Bright As A Star Award to the Butterfly Award. After the Pre-K Spring show and Graduation Ceremony we will have a Graduation Party catered by the parents. Each parent will make an entree or dessert to share. I have purchased gifts for all of my students. Each child will get a folder that contains a photo collage of the class, a picture of them in a frame that they made, their journal, a letter from me and an Autographs paper that each child in the class has signed. If I were an elephant, I’d thank you Lord by raising my trunk.
And if I were a kangaroo, I’d just hop right up to you.
And If I were an octopus, I’d thank you Lord for my good looks.
But I just thank you father for making me...me!

If I were a wiggly worm, I’d thank you Lord that I could squirm.
And if I were a crocodile, I’d thank you Lord for my big smile.
And if I were a fuzzy-wuzzy bear, I’d thank you Lord for my fuzzy-wuzzy hair.
But I just thank you father for making me...me!

This is a special way to thank our parents for allowing us to be part of their children's lives. We always decorate the rooms with the children's art work. This year the theme is bugs.

I did this last year as we learned the song "Your a Grand Ole Flag"
We used two large sheets of white poster board paper. I then took the students hands painted the left red for the stripes and the right blue for the stars. Once I placed their hands on the paper I wrote each child's name under the handprint. We hung that flag the rest of the school year and said our pledge every morning to it. At the end of the year I cut out each hand and filed it in the students port folio to take home. It could be used at graduation or a end of the year picnic to say the pledge.

This year the theme of our graduation will be friendship. I have made butcher-paper outlines of the children that they will decorate to look like themselves and I will hang them around the auditorium to look like they are all holding hands. We will be walking in to "You've Got A Friend In Me" from Toy Story, instead of the traditional "Pomp and Circumstance." We will sing:
*Friends-PB&J Otter
*I Like You-Dr. Jean
*You Are My Friend-Mr. Rogers
I also plan to have them sign along to the Mr. Rogers song. I made a short video clip of each child in which I asked them what makes a good friend, and I will show it during the ceremony. The responses were priceless!

we play the graduation song that they play for colleges, as the children march in with their caps that they made, and we wear the school's colors. the graduates do a welcome in sign language, then the young preschoolers sing the song off of "out of the box" to the graduates. then we have a section, called graduates show-off. this is when they display what they have learned throughout the year. we have a five minute intermission, to prepare for our skit. last year we did the three lil pigs. last we give out the certificates and their portfolios. we have refreshments at the end.

Idea:

Our Pre-K graduation theme last year was a patriotic one, and since it was held at night we called it "Graduation under the Stars". We covered every available area with cut out stars in r/w/b. The aisles that the graduates proceeded down were also covered in scattered star confetti. The refreshment tables were in the same star-R/W/Blue theme, and flags hung from our ceiling tiles. We had several artificial ficus trees decked out in lights too! We turned the house lights off so that the children would be illuminated by the twinkling "stars". This ambience really was exciting for the children, and made it so special for them!!!

I had 11 graduates, and we sang a variety of American songs, including "God Bless America", "You're a Grand 'Ol Flag", and several others, including two solos. The children then filed out of the room to dress in caps and gowns while a parent sang a very moving song to fill the time! The children then proceeded down the aisle to "pomp and circumstance" to receive their diplomas. The class was announced and the children sang Greg and Steve's "Goodbye" song. They then left the stage to a patriotic march. The parents were so thrilled with the ceremony, and many indicated that after the 9/11 attacks it was wonderful to see such a show of patriotism from the country's next generation.

This year, we are planning a ceremony that is more light-hearted, and our theme is "Be All You Can Be!". I am still brainstorming ideas! Thanks to everyone for posting such wonderfully inspirational ideas for Pre-K graduations!!!

We are a Christian Pre School with children ranging in ages from 3 to 5. The parents order (with our help) graduation gowns with caps and tassels. We take pictures of each graduate dressed in graduation attire. Make a special frame for each picture. During graduation they march in on the Graduation March. Those not graduating are already in the stands. We have the photo op. We do the pledge, our Hello song, count to 10 in Spanish, English, and Swahilli along with a few words from each language. Songs, and Nursery Rhymes. After which each child gets to spell their name (those who can do so), graduates get a diploma and all receive a special gift from us. Then its downstairs for refreshments.

I am a Teacher assistant. This pass June was graduation day. We decorate the Church with blue and yellow balloons, put bows with the same colors in each aisle, at the last aisle we put United State flags. The theme was Children Of The World, and we choose the song Children Of The World by Little Suzy. Children march with Patriotic songs like "God Bless America" By Celine Dion and Others Caring Flags. The teachers said some words in Spanish and English. Then the Children sings some songs like the ABC, days of the week, and a poem. They present the Diplomas and at the same time they receive their diplomas they give their mothers a pink Rose. Then at the end they sang the Theme song. It was wonderful. After graduation we had some food and we give the children some gifts. For next year we had a lots of ideas.

As we do not feel that making preschool children perform or wear graduation attire is developmentally appropriate, we have an different kind of graduation.

This year we are going with an Hawaiian theme. We will have make-your-own-kebobs and grill set up outside. As they come arrive, they can eat. Once everyone has arrived and eaten, we present certificates to the children and they/we talk about their favorite memories from the year. Then we have an ice cream sundae buffet. Everyone has a great time. There really is little prep work, and the children feel no pressure. They are there to have fun and say good-bye to their friends, without having to worry about trying to remember a song or getting nervous in front of people. It is a great way for everyone involved to end the year. Parents are always pleased.

We have done this same thing only with other themes-Mexican, circus, backyard barbeque, etc.

Dear Families,

Our school year with your children has come to an end. We have spent the last few weeks in the classroom focusing on this important transition. We used a calendar, classroom discussion, and children’s literature to help with the process of separating from school and saying goodbye.

We read Jamie Lee Curtis’ “When I Was Little: A Four-Year-Old’s Memoir of Her Youth.” This book notes a child’s growth by comparing what she is capable of now to what she was like long (or not so long) ago. We took time to note the children’s growth over this past school year. For example, at the beginning of the year the children didn’t know how to clean up. Now they have learned to take care of their room. It is helpful for you to help your child note his or her accomplishments in this way.

We also read “Goodbye, Hello” by Barbara Shook Hazen. It is the story of a girl moving to a new home. She must say goodbye to many things- her room, friends, and neighbors. When she gets to her new home, she experiences saying hello to new things- her new room, new friends, and new neighbors. We discussed that we must say goodbye when school finishes, and spoke about some things we would be saying goodbye to. Children said the water table, the easel, and the playground. We also asked the children to share some things they would be saying hello to when school finishes. They said summer camp, swimming pools, and trips.

We also have read Judy Osbourne’s “My Teacher Said Goodbye Today.” The children in the book recount their favorite activities from the past year. We discussed what some of our favorite activities have been. It was hard for the children to pick just one! After the discussion, the children chose a picture of themselves engaged in one of their favorite activities. They then dictated the words, or text, for their own page in our class book. The result is a collaboration by all the children. We hope it will help you and your child share memories from this past year.

Separation is central to a three-year-old’s experience, and it is also a process which continues through adulthood. At the beginning of the year, our task was to help the children separate from home. Now it is time for us to separate from each other. We are very proud of the way the children have adjusted and learned to be part of school. Thank you for sharing your child with us during these most precious years.

The children will sit in the chairs with their faces showing through the windows of the bus(cut out 6 rectangles spaced equally apart. Graduation Gown -

Last year we had each child bring in an adult size small or medium t-shirt 2 weeks before graduation. With fabric paint (of the schools colors), write the school name across the bottom (or on the back) of the shirt. Then write the child's name on one sleeve and the year or date on the other sleeve.

Each child in the class would place their handprints on each shirt, then write the name of each child on the shirt (between the handprints).

This makes a great memento of the child's graduation (also handy as a night shirt)

After a brief welcome to parents and guests, we say Pledge of Allegiances. the classes sing their songs. Then each class proceeds up to receive a diploma (graduates) and others receive a certificate. After a group good-bye song (which we use at dismissal daily, the children and guests return to their own class room to have a party. We have done this the past 3 years and it is so wonderful. This year we have included a song we get our wiggles out to every day (which we will do first off to get the children relaxed), Did you feed my cow?, a wonderful story about 10 ladybugs which we will act out, 5 monkeys jumping on the bed ( the graduates will do this one) and a wonderful song on Nick Jr. about colors. We always pick a theme for the program.. This year we are working on a Patriotic theme in light of 9/11. The Pre-K children made flags to wave while singing "Grand Old Flag." We also have a number of "Super Stars" that wanted to have a "big" part so we asked the children for ideas. One young girl wanted to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" as a solo. (it gives me chills every time we practice) We also have 4 girls singing the 2nd verse of Lee Greenwoods "God Bless The USA." The rest of the children join in for the rest of the song. The children love to think up ideas and then follow through for the big show. Also instead of traditional gowns, we take a class photo and print in on iron on transfer paper. We iron them on a white t-shirt that we wear on stage and then have a wearable memory. I will wear mine all summer and the children all take turns wearing theirs and picking out themselves on the shirts. Just a fun idea!!

The best graduation we have ever had was about shining. We are a Christian school so we did Shine for Jesus. But could be used in any school. All our songs had something to do with shining or the sun, etc... I took a very long piece of PVC pipe and two concrete blocks stuck the ends of the pipe on the blocks to make a half circle. I made a big round sun to go in the middle and taped it to a microphone stand. Then I took yellow and orange streamers and went from the pipe to the sun to make sun rays. I put a spot light on the floor in front of the sun. On the last song the lights went down and the children held up little lights and swayed and sang to a slow song. It was beautiful.

After reading all of the great ideas in this site, I decided I

would add something I have been doing at our graduation ceremonies for about ten years. I make a balloon archway using royal blue and white balloons (these are our school colors). The archway is used in the center of stage behind the children. The archway is made by tying helium filled balloons to fishing line. We use

about twenty balloons on the large archway. We make little balloon trees and set them all over the auditorium. The balloons in the balloon trees are helium filled and are also made by attaching them to fishing line. The decorations are beautiful and have become a tradition at our Preschool graduation ceremonies. It makes for a beautiful and exciting night that goes along with our graduation program. After the program is over, the balloon archway is cut and the balloons are given to the preschoolers as part of their gifts. In 2000, I used silver, white, and royal blue balloons to celebrate the millennium year. This year will have a patriotic theme. I plan to make three archways using red balloons at the top, a white archway below, and then blue. The children will be marching in carrying small American flags. We will recite the pledge, our flag song, and sing "You're A Grand Ole

Flag". We wear beautiful caps and gowns that we order from Thomas Creative Apparel. The program consists of speaking parts, poems, nursery rhymes, and songs. Perfect attendance certificates are awarded and diplomas are given out. The parents provide a wonderful reception in the church fellowship hall. I have two nights of ceremonies to accommodate the crowd that attends. We have around 250 people on each night. It is an event that this small town looks forward to!

Here's a poem I wrote for the end of the year- READY FOR KINDERGARTEN My days in preschool are almost done, I'm off this summer to have some fun. Then on to kindergarten I will go. (My teacher says I'm ready, you know.) I've learned my colors and my shapes. I know the difference between monkeys and apes. I can sing and I can paint. I know to say "not" instead of "ain't." I know some letters and their sounds. We learned our streets and our hometowns. I can help and I can listen, Be nice to friends, but no kissin'! I'm ready to learn to read and write, And I know how to share, not fight. There's so much I already know. It's been lots of fun to learn and grow. I'm a preschool graduate-way to go!

My graduation is simple: The song Butterfly kisses will be playing while the guest are getting in there seats, then I will have the children sing, You Are My Sunshine, as they march in, they will each have a yellow carnation to go and give to their mom in the audience. We will go over things we have learned in circle time, Pledge, Days of wk. Months of the yr. and add some songs we have learned also.. I will follow up by reviewing what we did each month in preschool. Example (In March we put on our cowboy hats and visited the mini farm_) usually the children will say oh I remember that we saw ______& went on a picnic. So this is a great way to end the program.. I also kept a quote book I will read something that the child said during the year.... Hope this idea works for you.

For a really emotional ending, we have our pre-k children sign "You Are So Beautiful" at the very end of our program. As they file out they sing "Kindergarten here we come, We know we'll have lots of fun. Lots of things to make and do. Reading, writing, counting too. Kindergarten here we come, We know we'll have lots of fun." It's sung to the tune "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

We did our graduation this June and we had a really cute song included in it. it's called "We are proud to be preschoolers" it goes:

We are proud to be preschoolers and we learned to do things well,
We can play so many games now like the farmer in the dell.
We have learned to color pictures and to make things out of clay
And we know a hundred stories, we are read to everyday.
We learned to pledge allegiance and we promised to be true,
To God and to old glory the dear red white and blue.
We have learned fair play with others and every classroom rule,
We'll be glad when it is August for it's then we'll go to school.

This is sang to the tune of "My Darling Clementine"

Each year we do a different theme. One theme we particularly liked was "Chicka Boom Boom". We made beach hats out of wallpaper pieces, wore colorful summer play wear and sang Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We had fun foam letters to hold up on cue. We also always put in a song of thankfulness for our parents, and a fun song with lummi sticks or a song from Macmillan that the children select as favorite. It always ends up to be a tearful time no matter what our program.

This year for graduation we have compiled some of the ideas found here and have included some of our own. The ceremony will have four parts: 1. Intro. Speech 2. Sample circle time: where we will do the Pledge of Allegiance in Sign Language, several color songs by Steven Fite, and other favorite songs and we will end with the song "I've Been Going to my Preschool" found here, and the Graduation poem found here. 3. We will wear graduation hats made ourselves and receive certificates. 4. The parents can browse the "Museum" where each child will have sample artwork from the year set in their own space. The parents will be given bags decorated by the children to take their child's artwork and portfolios home with them afterward. 4. In the remaining time we will have a DANCE for the children with some of their favorite songs while the parents can have refreshments and take pictures! Thanks for all of the ideas!!

This year for pre-K graduation we made little "graduates". Each child traced a small cardboard body (like a paper doll). Then they traced a gown and cap for their doll. They drew a face and we added a few strands of yarn to the cap for a tassel. Cute!!!

I have had a preschool graduation for 22 years. In the best interest of the children, we have simplified the program. We still have children make their own caps by drawing a picture with markers on a square of posterboard. Families are invited to attend and join in refreshments when the program ends. The children sing songs from the school year, then receive a 'diploma' from their teacher. Our program for the day is a keepsake which includes answers to the question: When I grow up I will be........We all love this special way to say goodbye to these precious children who have come into our lives at such an impressionable time! Teachers in my program also collect samples of work all year to include in a special "Me Book" which is given to families at the end of the school year.

We give you back your child, the same child you entrusted to our care last fall. We give her back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible and more mature than she was then. Although she would have attained this in spite of us, it has been our happy privilege to watch her personality unfold day by day and marvel at each new achievement, each new success, each new expansion of self. We give her back reluctantly; for having spent nine months together in the narrow confines of a crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become a part of each other and shall always retain a little part of each other. We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned and enriched our lives together this year. We wish it could go on indefinitely, but give her back we must. Take care of her for she is precious and only one of a kind. Remember that we shall always be interested in your child and her destiny, wherever she goes, whatever she does, whoever she becomes. Her joys and sorrows we will be happy to share. Please call on us if there is anything further we can ever do for her.

As with all preschool graduations, ours is a very emotional time, a time to say good-bye to the children we have watched grow an develop and to their parents. We are a program designed primarily for children with developmental disabilities but also have a population of about 40% children who are typically developing. For some of the children, this may be their only graduation. I pick a theme based on a song or idea with our decorations, slide show, etc. all tied into that theme. Over the Rainbow with the Wizard of Oz theme and The Circle of Life with the Lion King were probably some of the easiest. The slide show always brings tears as a variety of music plays through the baby years (songs such as Itty Bitty Pretty One), messy times (Wild Thing), parties (Celebrate) and special events (Police--Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This)--well you get the picture. We order our caps and gowns from Thomas Apparel (they have quality gowns at affordable prices--we have some, and the parents can order if they want one to keep). The awards and speech is based on the special milestones and development the children have made and/or how they assisted others who needed their help. I never get through it without tears--watching these babies take their first steps whether by feet or power chair and say their first words, whether by voice or sign, then to see the progress each and everyone has made is wonderful for staff and family alike. Our graduations have become legendary and are attended by friends and people in our community each year.

This is my first year teaching. Of course, my first Pre-K graduation, not only are my students looking forward to graduation, but I am too. The theme at my center is Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes. I chose Hey Diddle Diddle. We have been practicing for just about 5 days now and my students know the rhyme already! Everyone will wear blue shorts and we're going to create our own homemade T-shirts. Each child is a specific character. They will paint on T-shirts and wear them for the ceremony. We are even making our own background scene for the performance, but I still have to think about that a bit.

Children love to perform and be the center of attention. I hold a graduation ceremony where the children perform different songs and skills they have learned throughout the year. The children walk to the stage in pairs to the Pomp and Circumstance song. The director then gives a Welcome speech. We then proceed by singing "My Name is" by Stephen Fite. The children recite their full names on cue. (This is really cute since some of the children have trouble saying their full names - it also gives each child a chance to have a part that is their own.) We then sing the "Seven days in a week" - also by Stephen Fite. It's a rock version - better than the worn out version "There are seven days in a week" The children sing this but also use sign language for each day. Then we sing and sign the alphabet. (Sign Language isn't only a language to learn but it is also a great exercise for fine motor control.) We recite a poem that I made up for the numbers - after it is recited all the children count to ten in English, Spanish, French, and Sign Language. The Children then are seated (on stage) and wait for their name to be called for their Pre-Kindergarten diplomas. They do this as Kenny Loggins "Return to Pooh Corner" plays. The children walk to get their diplomas and also get a yellow carnation - which they give to their parents. The graduating class is announced, the children move their tassels to the other side. We invite parents to come to the stage to dance with the children to the "Monkeys" There is a line in the song that says "We're the young generation" and after that line we yell "It's Graduation Day!" It's cute and simple - and parents love it!

I have done many different graduation programs over the past 13 years I have taught kindergarten. Many are already listed here - themed programs, the year in review, favorite songs, etc. We have 3 classes now and have limited our "large group time" to a minimum as our gymnasium is so hot at night We gather for a few songs there, present perfect attendance awards, recognize outstanding volunteers, our education assistant, etc. Then we return to our classrooms where our students receive diplomas and "Kindergarten Star Student" awards. These are awards that we select specifically for each student. (Examples: block builders, math whiz, best printing, etc) We present our parents with a treat that we have prepared for them. I wrote a poem to accompany this. If you are interested, email me and I'll be happy to send it to you. We have made simple mints, handprint cookies, and heart in hand cookies in the past for this treat. Then the parents leave and the students and teachers have a sleep-over in the gym. We have centers, the principal comes to read our bed-time story, and the children HOPEFULLY fall asleep watching a Disney movie. This has become a tradition in our school and everyone gets excited about it.

This year we are doing the circus as our end of the year theme. Each board in the room has a different circus train, and of course the big top. As a part of our graduation, we will "sell" tickets to the parents and friends of the children, and invite them for hotdogs, cotton candy, balloons and entertainment by their children. The teachers of the room plan on dressing as ring leaders and we have asked each child to come dressed as a clown or a circus animal for a day at the circus!

A wonderful song we use at our graduation is "No one tells the President" from Mary Kate and Ashley . We hold American flags and Signs that say "preschoolers for President". The parents love it. It is a little long so we learn it a little at a time with picture cue cards. We also do the ABC rock and the Number Rock. We order adorable caps and gowns and have refreshments following the ceremony.

For my son's preschool graduation I'm going to do a variation of a Christmas cracker as a favor for the children.. Take a TP tube (or paper towel tube cut to a 4 inch length. Fill with wrapped candies or small treats, and use a piece of grad wrapping paper cut into an 8 inch square, wrap it around the tube, secure the paper with tape, and tie a ribbon at both ends of the tube to keep the contents from falling out.

During the week before graduation, we trace each child's body on large mural paper. The children then "decorate" themselves, adding facial features, hair, and clothing. We hang these up all around the room on graduation day, and then the families take them home. It is a really cute display!

Our graduation day is very special at our school. Since we are a church Preschool our graduation is part of our Chapel time. We have seven PS4's classes and we set up our rooms with different activities for the morning. Each teacher has their favorites and the kids have their favorite activities. We travel from room to room celebrating each of those activities and at the end all go to Chapel and talk to God. We sing all of our favorite Chapel songs and end with our school song that asks God to watch over us as we play. Then we go to the" big room" for a light lunch.

We make and wear caps. Usually a parent can play POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE on a keyboard. Children parade into our room. We review the year with songs, fingerplays or dances. We end with the rewrite of Zippety Doodah as follows: Zippety doodah zippety A My oh my summer's coming our way Plenty of sunshine swimming and play Zippety doodh zippety A

There's a sadness in the air It's over, it's done, and wasn't (school or class name) fun Zippety doodah, zippety A. Summer is coming, Graduation's today.

Then we call each child up individually to receive the following: Diploma, Yearbook which contains a page of dictation for each theme (involving critical thinking or creative thinking. Also, we have a buddy class (third grade) with whom we meet at least once a month. They use the opportunity as a writing experience. We take photographs and the third graders make "Buddy Books" as a gift to the graduate. It's quite appreciated by the families involved.

For our graduation ceremony we did a skit on Old Macdonald had a farm. We used old refrigerator and stove boxes for the farm and had the children paint them.(cut a door in the front and back of farm for easy entry and exit) We used deviders for a pen painted to look like a fence. The children made costumes to look like animals and we had a "farmer" to guide the children from the farm to the pen. Each child made the sound of the animal they were and one of the teachers sang the song. We had 15 graduates and it was an easy way to get all the children to participate. The children really enjoyed making their own costumes and making the set.Our parents were all very impressed with all the work every one put into it. They laughed and clapped through the whole song. We had some children who really hammed it up, so they were a real hit. Try to get an animal that matches the child's personality.

A cute poem that we use for our alamater!

I know numbers,

I know shapes,

I knows that purple stands for grapes.

I know red and white and blue,

I know green and yellow too

.I know what police officers and mayors do,

firefighters and nurses, too.

I'm an artist, I can paint.

I try hard not to say ain't.

I have rhythm,

I know sounds.

I've had ups and I've had downs.

I've been quiet, I have giggled.I've sat still,

at times I've wiggled.

I've worked all year for this degree,

there now aren't you proud of me!!

We use this poem in our yearly preschool graduations and the parents love hearing the children say it!

Our annual graduation opened with all the graduates singing a "Welcome" song. This was followed by a review of the school year...,a teacher would read a brief verse about the month...just a few lines about what our theme that month had been. Then a group of children would come forward to do a fingerplay, act out a poem, perform to a record, sing a song ......or whatever they had learned during that month. All children were included as part of a group......some months had several items (November and February ...) some just one. As the children were using things they had learned before, the program could be put together quickly. Several classes can share the months if you have two classes at the same age level.Use the craft ideas you did that month for props (save some as you go along !!) and it will come together easily.End with a group song and the diploma presentation. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you want!!

This year we had an excellent Graduation for our 4 year olds!!

1. We did the Pledge of Allegiance

2. Skidamarink - we did the hand actions for this

3. 5 Big Dinosaurs - Fingerplay with cutout T-Rex's. We picked 5 children to hold the BIG dinosaurs.

4. ABC Rock - from a Greg & Steve album. The children held up large laminated ABC letters. They love this song-it rocks... LOL.

5. Rumble Boogie - from Newbridge Records. The children stood up in front of their chairs and danced.

6. Spooky Walk - again from Newbridge Records. This was our favorite. We had cutouts of a witch, black cat, and a moon. Then we turned off the lights and had a spotlight on the cutouts. Then, this was our favorite part, we bought neon glow in the dark glasses and when it came to a part that said "see", the children would put their glasses on. It was soooo cooooooool (As the children would say). We also handed out diplomas and did Pomp and Circumstance. The parents watched a video while we got our caps and gowns on. As for a present for the children, they got to keep the cool glow in the dark glasses and also received a smiley face graduation necklace. The glasses and necklaces were purchased from The oriental Trading Company.....Enjoy!!!!!!

During the year we keep a quotable quotes book in our room. We've all heard children say things that are so cute they just beg to be written down. These are the things we write inour quotable quotes book. At graduation as we call the children's names to walk down the aisle (in full cap and gown) to recieve their diplomas we read our favorite quote they gave us during the year. The parent seem to really love this. At our end of the year picnic we do some thing a bit different in that we give each child an award outlining thier special interests. Such as: Class Computer Whiz for the little guy who couldn't stop playing on the PC, or Best Hugs to the little girl whose arms are always ready for a hug!

The last two weeks of pre-school our theme is artists. At our spring program we set up an art gallery. I showcase some of the kids artwork and mention that we do not have to be famous and have our work is museums, books, etc. to be an artist. The kids loved this. They enjoyed looking at each other work and always had great comments about each piece of work. After the graduation we also have a reception. I asked each family to bring one snack item and a two liter of soda. After the show we ate and visited. It was a very relaxing evening.

I have had preschool graduation for several years now. I begin with a theme. So far I have used our earth ( music would include songs from Raffi), Growing ( ideas would be doing some basic skills learned) tracing bodies and displaying them throughout the area used. Movement, ( using movement music, things done as a group) What I will be when I grow up! ( children dress as their occupation of the future and tell why) Flight ( children going on to big school using a poem that is wonderful e mail me for it! the children again dressed as occupation and releasing butterflies at the end. My ideas begin with one song. Example the ceremony about flight we sang " I believe I can fly" from Space Jam.Begin with one song for either the graduating children to sing or everyone then tie it all in together using dramatic play etc. The ending is a diploma and a good bye song followed by refreshments, oh I always cry! Please e mail me for specifics.Have Fun!

For preschool graduation our school does the following:

Each child has a Graduation hat

Behind them is a banner made on a sheet with a rainbow made of all the children's hand prints.

They have a bridge the children walk over as they are announced and receive a diploma.

We see a slide presentation with the kids at play at school.

We sing the Nursery School is Over song the kids sing everyday at school.

The teachers recognize help from parents.

The parents recognize the teachers through a gift or poem.
