For Father's Day last year, we learned some songs about dads. We made art
projects for them. We invited them to come for a lunch. The kids made peanut
butter and jelly sandwiches, we had chips and lemonade. Then the kids sang the
songs we learned. The dads and kids then played duck, duck, goose. A fun time
was had by all.

With all the different family situations these days, I have found that the
term "Father's Day" is almost 'passé'. I have for several years now
used the term F.U.D.G.E. Day instead. That stands for Friends, Uncles, Dads,
Grandpas, Etc. It seems to go over very well with the men in the children's
lives, because they feel they're all included!

For Father's Day, we have the traditional father's day BBQ. But as a fun
twist, we have the father's and their children make bird houses out of wood. We
set up a table with nails, hammers, scrap pieces of wood, and glue. It was
something fun to do while the dad's and kids waited for their food.

We normally make father's day a celebration though out the day. Early
in the morning we leave a sweet smelling shower gel and scrub brush in the
bathroom for dad to find. When he goes down stairs he finds Starbucks
coffee (extra treat) already brewed along with scones or muffins (Made the
night before). While dads at work the kids and I make his favorite
cookies. I make a huge dinner. This year it will be southern fried
chicken, biscuits and honey, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and home
made lemonade. Dessert? Southern bourbon pecan pie with ice cream. We then
present our cards to dad and homemade gifts. After dinner dad goes up
stairs to find Old Navy pajama pants laid out on his bed and his favorite
cookies. Idea here is to just surprise him with little gifts through out
the day whether you hand make them or buy them it really makes them feel
so great. If you need any recipes, feel free to e-mail me. Thanks and go
crazy.

To celebrate Father's Day...on the Friday before Father's Day, we have a
drop-in breakfast. We encourage dads to bring their children to school and have a quick
breakfast with them. We serve donuts, muffins, danishes, etc. along with coffee, milk, or
juice. Earlier in the week, the child has made his dad a crown to wear and we deem the
dad, "King of the Day." The dads are usually good sports and wear their crown
for a memorable picutre with their child!!

Last year for a Father's Day celebration our preschool class invited our
fathers to go bowling with us. We planned on going to a local bowling alley and we also
used the party room to have lunch together. It was a fun day had by all.
